Michael Riedel reports in the New York Post this morning that Al Pacino's star power has earned The Merchant of Venice the winners spot for the fall's highest advance generating show. The production, which opens at the Broadhurst Theatre on November 7, 2010, has reportedly taken in approximately $4M, beating out all incoming fall plays and musicals. (more...)

On Sunday, October 17 at 2:30 p.m., the Epic Theatre Ensemble will present a staged reading of a new version of Ari Roth's acclaimed Born Guilty Cycle at the Museum of Jewish Heritage - A Living Memorial to the Holocaust. Blanka Zizka will direct the monumental three and one-half hour reading which will feature Rick Foucheux. Following a sold-out, eight week run at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park, The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis; Executive Director Andrew D. Hamingson), Jeffrey Richards and Jerry Frankel announced today that they will transfer Daniel Sullivan's critically acclaimed production of THE MERCHANT OF VENICE to Broadway this fall. Al Pacino will reprise his celebrated performance as Shylock for 78 performances only, beginning Tuesday, October 19 at the Broadhurst Theatre (235 W. 44th Street) and running through Sunday, January 9. Falls' major revival features Tony Award-winning stage and screen stars Nathan Lane Nathan Lane as hardware salesman and pipe dreambuster Theodore 'Hickey' Hickman, and Brian Dennehy Brian Dennehy as one-time syndicalist-anarchist Larry Slade. Hailed by The New York Times as a 'ferocious American classic that has lost none of its power,' The Iceman Cometh marked Falls' and Dennehy's first O'Neill collaboration at the Goodman in 1990-a production which featured Dennehy in the role of Hickey.
