The world comes to a small Southern town in Horizon Theatre Company's World Premiere of Third Country by Suehyla El-Attar. The play, directed by Horizon Co-Artistic Director Lisa Adler, is inspired by the Clarkston, Georgia community where thousands of refugees have been resettled over the last decade. In addition to the production, Horizon is partnering with more than 20 local organizations to bring this story to life through post-show discussions, opportunities to meet the people who inspired the play, special events, and a marketplace for refugee-made goods. "This will be an evening of humor and inspiration as we challenge the stereotypes of disability and celebrate artists with disabilities" shares Julie Swenson, RTW's Producing Director. Making A Scene - A Celebration of the Senses features excerpts from Barbara Leigh's Survival Revival Revue; several monologues by Chastity Washington, stand-up comedienne from NAMI; stories by Ruth Silver from her book Invisible: My Journey Through Vision and Hearing Loss; and a surprise performance by girls and women from Vision Forward. The 2013-2014 season of Washington National Opera (WNO) has just been announced by Artistic Director Francesca Zambello. The season includes Tristan and Isolde, a new production of The Force of Destiny, the East Coast premiere of Moby-Dick, The Elixir of Love, and a new production of The Magic Flute. WNO will also present the world premiere of The Lion, The Unicorn, and Me, a holiday-themed family opera commissioned by WNO and written by acclaimed American composer Jeanine Tesori. 'The 2012-2013 season exceeded all expectations, particularly at the box office, and resulted in a small operating surplus,' reported Skylight Managing Director, Amy Jensen. 'We are pleased to report that we increased revenues by 14% over the prior year while holding our expenses to a nominal 2% increase.' (more...)

For their 2013-2014 season American Classics brings three 'firsts' to their programming. For the first time American Classics will present a guest performer in their own concert, acclaimed entertainer John O'Neil in his popular salute to Danny Kaye, 'So Kaye, a one man 'tongue-twisting tour-de force' showcasing songs, stories and monologues culled from Kaye's illustrious career. 'So Kaye was nominated for the prestigious IRNE award in 2001; since that time O'Neil has performed the show up and down the East Coast from Maine to Florida. 'Adding John O'Neil and 'So Kaye to our season is exciting for us. John has appeared with us in the past, but we are delighted to be able to showcase him in one of his most popular shows,' says Producing Director Benjamin Sears, who notes, 'this is Kaye's centenary year, so it's a perfect time to feature John in an American Classics season.'
