Conceived for the 4th installment of SPRING/BREAK Art Show, New York City's curator-driven art fair—running concurrently with The Armory Show March 3 - 8, 2015—AKArt curators Amy Kisch, Ricky Lee, Lizzie Jones, and Alexandra Wagle, present the group exhibition Transgressive Inversions + Identities. Given the fair's 2015 theme TRANSACTION, the artists featured in the group show—Craig Damrauer, Johanna Evans-Colley, Sean Fader, Katya Grokhovsky, Ujin Lee, Kristin McIver, and Allie Pohl—investigate exchange, each through a different medium: sculpture, video, print, painting, photography, and performance. Performances by Sean Fader, Katya Grokhovsky, and Ujin Lee will be completed throughout the exhibition week (see schedule here). To further highlight implicit and underlying monetary, emotional, and aesthetic transactions, a Pop-Up Shop of Allie Pohl's Ideal Woman jewelry line—carried by the Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles, MASS MoCA, and Art Markit—and Merit Badge hats, along with Sean Fader's #wishingpelt t-shirts, necklaces, bomber jackets, and leggings will accompany the exhibition. Tony Award-winning costume designer, JESS GOLDSTEIN (currently represented on Broadway with Jersey Boys and On the Town), and scenic designer DOUGLAS W. SCHMIDT are among the 2015 TDF/Irene Sharaff Awards recipients. The awards will be presented at a ceremony on Friday, May 1, at 6:30pm, at the Hudson Theatre (145 West 44th Street). Mr. Goldstein was selected to receive the 2015 TDF/Irene Sharaff Lifetime Achievement Award for costume design and Mr. Schmidt will receive the Robert L.B. Tobin Award for Sustained Excellence in Theatrical Design. (more...)

Highways Performance Space and Moon Mile Run present the world premiere of Bang Bang, the newest addition to Michael Kearns' compelling arsenal of theatrical work. Opening on Friday, April 10, 2015, Bang Bang is a character-driven play that examines societal 'headline' contentions with intensity and passion. Inspired by the myriad responses to gun violence in America - from Sandy Hook to Ferguson - Bang Bang, directed by Mark Bringelson, weaves a battered, shredded tapestry from individual lives torn apart when a trigger is pulled. The six performances are on Friday and Saturday nights from Friday, April 10 to Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 8:30pm at Highways Performance Space (18th Street Arts Center, 1651 18th Street, Santa Monica, CA 90404). General admission tickets are $20 in advance ($15 for students, Highways members, and seniors) and can be purchased here. Reservations may also be made by calling 310-315-1459. The Public Theater announced today that Richard Nelson's award-winning THE APPLE FAMILY PLAYS: SCENES FROM LIFE IN THE COUNTRY will tour Europe for five weeks beginning April 23 at The Find Festival in Berlin. The other tour venues include The May International Festival in Weisbaden, Germany; The Brighton Festival in the United Kingdom; and the Vienna Festival in Austria where the tour will conclude on May 23. Wolfe, and Savion Glover will team up to collaborate on SHUFFLE ALONG, Or, The Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed, a musical about the events that led to the creation of the groundbreaking Eubie Blake-Noble Sissle musical Shuffle Along. Starring Audra McDonald as the 1920's star Lottie Gee, directed by George C. Wolfe -- with a book written by Wolfe -- and choreographed by Savion Glover, the musical marks the first time that the writer/director and choreographer will have worked together since their 1996 hit Bring in 'da Noise, Bring in 'da Funk. Previews will begin Monday, March 14, 2016. Opening night is Thursday, April 21, 2016 at the Music Box Theatre (239 West 45th Street). (more...)

A $37 rush ticket policy will be launched tomorrow, Friday, March 13th when Carey Mulligan and Bill Night reprise their critically acclaimed West End performances in the hit London production of David Hare's Skylight at the John Golden Theatre (252 West 45th Street), directed by two-time Tony Award-winner Stephen Daldry. A limited number of rush tickets, for theatregoers aged 30 and under, will be available the day of the performance at the box office of the Golden Theatre. The $37 rush tickets will be limited to 2 per person with valid photo ID, and will be available when the box office opens. (more...)
