Due to popular demand, Random Acts and Greenhouse Theater Center are pleased to announce a second extension of the hit world premiere STRANGEST THINGS! THE MUSICAL by Bryan Renaud and Emily Schmidt and directed and choreographed by Tommy Rivera-Vega. The runaway hit based on the popular Netflix sci-fi series Stranger Things, currently scheduled through May 13, 2017, will add an additional six-week block of performances from June 3 - July 8, 2017 at Greenhouse Theater Center (Downstairs Mainstage), 2257 N. Stephen Sondheim's masterpiece Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street arrived at the Skylight Music Theatre last weekend to dazzle audiences with the American songwriter's brilliant, exquisite lyrics and melodies complimented by Hugh Wheeler's book.  A story resurrected from an old three penny publication titled 'String of Pearls' adapted from a 1976 Christopher Bond play retells dark, almost demonic yet ultimately redemptive tale revealing the horrors of revenge and the power of love through this award winning musical with songs such as "Johanna," "Pretty Women," and "By the Sea."  (more...)

Lautenberg, in association with NewYorkRep, announced today that Church & State, the critically acclaimed play by Jason Odell Williams, a 'BEST PLAY' nominee from the Off Broadway Alliance, will play its final performance Sunday, June 4 at 7:30 p.m. Directed by Markus Potter (Stalking the Bogeyman), Church & State is currently running at New World Stages (340 W. 50th Street - between 8th & 9th Avenues).  At the time of closing, Church & State will have played 29 previews and 81 regular performances. BRIC Announces Artists Selected for Summer Residency Program

BRIC, the leading provider of free cultural programming in Brooklyn, announces the eight recipients of the annual BRICworkspace visual artistresidency program for the summer of 2017. BRIC was able to double the number of artists in residence this summer, from four to eight, due to a new donation of space at 505 State Street in Downtown Brooklyn, courtesy of Alloy Development. The summer 2017 awardees will be an all-female roster, including Nicole Awai Esperanza Cortes, Lucia Cuba, Phoebe Grip, Katya Grokhovsky, Katherine Toukhy, Jamie Warren and Monika Weiss. The residency program is now in its fourth year and is open to artists who live, work, or were born in Brooklyn. (more...)

An artistic director, experienced actors, enthusiastic neophytes and even a violinist...these are the diverse players assembled for Why Dream in Inglewood?, a City of Inglewood Inglewood Growing Artists Performed Projects (IGAPP) initiative awarded to playwright Henry Ong. The IGAPP exposes Inglewood audiences to the practices of contemporary artists and supports the work and growth of artists. Ong's six-hour adaptation of the Chinese classic, 'Dream of the Red Chamber,' debuts Acts I & II on Saturday, April 22 at 10:30 am at the Edward Vincent Jr Park Amphitheater, 714 Warren Lane in Inglewood. Humanitas Play LA WORKSHOP Inaugurates New Play Festival

The Humanitas Play LA Workshop is expanding its presence in Los Angeles, it was announced today. After last year's successful partnership with Centre Theatre Group, Play LA is broadening its focus. Each of the six plays developed from the ground up in this year's workshop will be given works-in-progress readings in the inaugural Humanitas Play LA Festival of New Works on April 28, 29, and 30. Six celebrated local theatres will be partnering with Humanitas to give these developing works a physical space in which to grow. (more...)
