The Menier Chocolate Factory's sell out production of Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler's A Little Night Music is to transfer to the West End for a strictly limited run. Trevor Nunn's critically acclaimed production will transfer to the Garrick Theatre from 28 March, with press night on Tuesday 7 April and is booking until 25 July 2009. A Little Night Music is produced in the West End by David Babani for Chocolate Factory Productions, Andrew Fell and Nica Burns and Max Weitzenhoffer for Nimax Theatres. (more...)

Beginning performances Tuesday, March 17, Tony Award-winner RONDI REED will join the Broadway company of the hit musical WICKED in the role of Madame Morrible. Ms. Reed was the original Morrible in the Chicago production of WICKED and returned to the role in Chicago after winning the Tony Award for August: Osage County. She joins a cast which includes Nicole Parker as Elphaba, Alli Mauzey as Glinda, P.J. Benjamin as The Wizard, Kevin Kern as Fiyero, Alex Brightman as Boq, Cristy Candler as Nessarose, and Timothy Britten Parker as Dr. Dillamond. (more...)

TONYS 2008 Q&A: Rondi Reed of 'August: Osage County'

Rondi Reed has been a Steppenwolf member since 1979, and has appeared in over 60 Steppenwolf productions. Rondi most recently appeared and to great acclaim at that, as Madame Morrible in the Chicago production of Wicked, proving she can do just about anything on a stage! Her many Broadway credits include The Grapes of Wrath, Rise and Fall of Little Voice and of course her current Best Featured Actress in a Play Tony nominated role of Mattie Fae Aiken in Tracy Lett's August: Osage County. We caught with up her at the Tony Nominee's Brunch where she discussed the play and its journey from Chicago to Broadway. (more...)

January Joy For The Watermill

In the wake of the sad news concerning the fate of the Theatre Museum in Covent Garden, it is cheering to read in the theatre's January newsletter that the necessary funds have now been raised to save the Watermill Theatre in Newbury. Backed by a loan of 750,000 from the Boris Karloff Foundation, the Board of Directors were able to meet their deadline and commit to purchasing the theatre. In addition, over 2,600 donors assisted in raising 1,77000 in just 18 months. Richard Price, Chairman of the Board, said: 'We are hugely grateful to all those generous people who have supported the Save The Watermill appeal.' With the future of the theatre secured, the Board's efforts will now be poured into raising the remaining funds needed for essential renovations and improvements to the premises, which will commence in April 2007. Sam Mendes directs a transatlantic company of actors in a double-bill of classic works for The Bridge Project's inaugural 2009 season, which pairs a new version of The Cherry Orchard by Tom Stoppard with The Winter's Tale. A formidable transatlantic company and creative team will mount these two new productions for seven internationally renowned theaters. Simon Russell Beale leads the British/American cast, playing Lopakhin in The Cherry Orchard and Leontes in The Winter's Tale.
