Maplewood Playwright Erin Mallon to Debut New Play at SOPAC

On May 21 at 7 p.m., Erin Mallon's new play, A Mind Out of the Gutter, will be presented by American Theater Group in a reading in the South Orange Performing Arts Center Loft. The reading gives professional actors a chance to bring life to the play as they read with script-in-hand, and gives audiences the opportunity to give valuable feedback to the playwright as she continues to refine the work. 2017 JMK Award Winners Announced

The Trustees of the JMK Trust are delighted to announce today that the winner of the 20th anniversary James Menzies-Kitchin Young Director Award is Josh Roche. Chosen after the now-legendary JMK selection process from another record-breaking number of applicants, Josh will be directing My Name is Rachel Corrie, the celebrated piece of verbatim theatre created from the writings of Corrie herself and co-edited by the late Alan Rickman and Katherine Viner. His production will be staged in the autumn at the Young Vic, with performance dates announced soon. The runner up this year was Nathan Crossan-Smith with a proposal for a production of Debbie Tucker-Green's random and will receive a £2,000 award. (more...)

Gloucester Stage Company kicks off its 38th season of professional theater on Cape Ann with the New England Premiere of John Kolvenbach's Bank Job from May 19 through June 10 at 267 East Main Street, Gloucester, MA. For two brothers, Russell and Tracey, new to the armed robbery industry, what seems like easy money turns out to be a lot more difficult than it looks in the movies in John Kolvenbach's hilarious Bank Job. When heist plans A and B (and C through F) fail, the brothers find themselves locked in the executive bathroom with no way out and no choice but to depend on a brave bank teller, a guileless cop, and the man in the shadows who put them up to the whole thing. A fun comedy, Bank Job is about the holes we dig ourselves into-and the unexpected comrades we trust to dig us out. More than 153,000 patrons attended performances, and ticket sales brought in more than $6 million, making 2016-2017 the highest attended and highest grossing theatrical season in Ford's Theatre history.
