Happy Birthday Carol Channing! She is the recipient of three Tony Awards (including one for lifetime achievement), a Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination. Channing is best remembered for originating, on Broadway, the musical-comedy roles of bombshell Lorelei Lee in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, and matchmaking widow Dolly Gallagher Levi in Hello, Dolly! She also appeared in two New York revivals of Hello, Dolly!, and toured with it extensively throughout the United States. Channing also appeared in a number of movies, The First Traveling Sales Lady (1956) with Ginger Rogers, the cult film Skidoo and Thoroughly Modern Millie, opposite Julie Andrews and Mary Tyler Moore. New Repertory Theatre announces its 2015-2016 SEASON: IDENTITY. Featuring eight productions in three theatre spaces, next season includes five plays in the Charles Mosesian Theater, beginning with Broken Glass, presented in celebration of the centennial of the birth of playwright Arthur Miller; A Number, Caryl Churchill's stark and startling drama; The Snow Queen, a new musical co-written and directed by former New Rep Artistic Director Rick Lombardo; Blackberry Winter, a National New Play Network Rolling World Premiere; and Freud's Last Session, a razor-sharp, witty, and much anticipated Boston Area Premiere. Our third annual Next Rep Black Box Festival will include two companion pieces whose setting is shared, but whose time is separated by 2000 years: Via Dolorosa by David Hare and The Testament of Mary by Colm To?ibi?n. Directed by Steven Brewer, Don't Dress for Dinner is fast-paced farce set in the charming French countryside. Bernard is planning a romantic weekend with his mistress while his wife, Jacqueline, is away. He invites his Best Friend, Robert, over for a fool-proof alibi. But, as it turns out, Robert is actually Jacqueline's lover, Jacqueline decides not to leave after all, Bernard's mistress must now pretend to be the cook and everyone's alibi is altered as Bernard and Robert try to talk their way out of a relationship mess! There seems to be no consequences when it comes to living and dying, so when a character finally does pass from a very human disease, it's not only shocking, but also gut-wrenching. Acclaimed comedy trio Unitard returns to New York City with HOUSE OF TARDS. Made up of the combined talents of Mike Albo (former New York Times columnist and author of The Underminer as well as established solo performer), Nora Burns (of the comedy group The Nellie Olesons), and David Ilku (member of the Dueling Bankheads), UNITARD brings HOUSE OF TARDS, its first new show in over two years, back to the Stonewall Inn, where it premiered last October (the sold out series of performances were extended through December 2014). HOUSE OF TARDS will once again be performed at the Stonewall Inn (53 Christopher Street in Greenwich Village) for four weekly performances beginning Thursday, March 19th (March 19th and 26th; April 2nd and 9th at 8 pm). Signs are made; only out of sight, out of mind. Reminders remind us, but soon forgotten. The ultimate sacrifice of life is tragic. Most feel invincible. It doesn't matter the age, succumbing to the convenience of cell phones and the services they offer is ageless. The days of social media and immediate gratification have arrived. The answer is to alleviate the source altogether. "Always on" modern technology that automatically enables and disables cell phone activity that is based on personal preferences is now available.
