In what can be a story easily dismissed as regional, of interest only to people familiar with the rise and fall of the city, Morisseau's colorful and fluid writing style complete with vernacular of that period, along with great direction and blocking creates a theatrical setting in which one is completely absorbed into the story and its place in U.S. history. Through the generous support of the Mertz Gilmore Foundation, The Dance Enthusiast has created the series Enthusiastic Events! A cross between a salon performance and a gathering at your Best Friend's home, renowned dance artists and prime movers from diverse fields will meet their audience in an intimate setting. Each event is themed and will include live performances from premier artists in the NYC dance world, feature special guests and presenters who work outside of dance but are highly influenced by the artform, and is paired with a guest chef who will create a unique menu related to the theme. Originally implemented as an April Fool's Day joke earlier this year in the philanthropic spirit of raising money and awareness for the ASPCA (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals ), but due to an overwhelming public response and demand, American Eagle Outfitters has brought the limited-edition American Beagle Outfitters collection to life for Holiday 2014. Today women go to college to get their MRS degree, but apparently, back in the day, the youthful elite traveled to the south of France for school, and with great hopes of finding the perfect boyfriend. Such is the setting for 42nd Street Moon's latest production, "The Boy Friend," a delightful romp through the sunny beaches and high societies of 1920's Nice. It's nicer in Nice, but it's just as lovely at the Eureka Theatre in San Francisco, where director and choreographer Cindy Goldfield offers the most creative dancing and staging for the most adorable characters currently on stage. Producers Tom Kirdahy, Roy Furman, and Ken Davenport announced today that Tony® Award winner Matthew Broderick has extended his contract with Broadway's smash hit It's Only A Play. Originally scheduled to appear in the production through its original closing date of January 4th, Broderick will continue to star in the production through its new end date on March 29, 2015. Broderick currently stars in the production opposite Nathan Lane, who exits on January 4th for a previously scheduled professional commitment. Beginning January 7th, Broderick will headline It's Only A Play opposite the previously-announced Martin Short. (more...)
