Laura Bell Bundy has had three distinct careers, each of which most performers would die to have on its own. Depending on your particular fandom, you either know her as the Tony-nominated star of hit musicals HAIRSPRAY and LEGALLY BLONDE, or as the country music artist behind the singles 'Giddy On Up' and 'Two Step,' or as a cast member of TV shows like HART OF DIXIE and ANGER MANAGEMENT. While her career could already be described as eclectic, Bundy recently added another unconventional line to her resume with last month's launch of Skits-O-Frenic, a YouTube channel dedicated to original comedy, music, drama, and dance, from Bundy and her collaborators Tiffany Engen and Brooke Engen. Playwrights Horizons presents the New York premiere of 2015 Pulitzer Prize finalist Marjorie Prime, a new play by Jordan Harrison (Maple and Vine, Doris to Darlene at PH; Amazons and Their Men; Kid-Simple; 'Orange is the New Black'). Commissioned by Playwrights Horizons and directed by Obie Award winner Anne Kauffman (Detroit, Maple and Vine, Your Mother's Copy of the Kama Sutra at PH; Belleville; This Wide Night; The Thugs), the play is the third production of the theater company's 2015/2016 Season. The first preview is tonight, November 20 at 8PM at Playwrights Horizons' Mainstage Theater (416 West 42nd Street). The production has an Opening Night set for Monday, December 14 and will play a limited engagement through Sunday, January 3. (more...)

Ingmar Bergman's NORA Begins This Weekend at Cherry Lane Theatre

Ingmar Bergman's NORA -- an adaptation of Henrik Ibsen's classic drama A DOLL'S HOUSE -- will be given its English-language New York debut Off-Broadway this fall when Austin Pendleton directs the production at Cherry Lane Theatre (38 Commerce St.), with previews set to begin November 14 prior to an official press opening November 22. The five-week production runs through December 12. NORA is produced by Cherry Lane Theatre in association with La Femme Theatre Productions.  (more...)

Philadelphia Theatre Company will present the gripping and timely play Exit Strategy by "Chicagoan of the Year" Ike Holter January 29-February 28.  Directed by Kip Fagan, the production features an ensemble cast with Michael Cullen, Aime Donna Kelly, Rey Lucas, Deidre Madigan, Christina Nieves, Brandon Pierce, and Ray Spahn. Sacha Wares Returns To Almeida Theatre to Direct World Premiere of BOY, April 5

Sacha Wares will be returning to Almeida Theatre to direct the world premiere of Leo Butler's new play Boy, after her directorial success with the critically acclaimed production, Game, by Mike Bartlett, in 2015.  Boy will run at the Almeida Theatre from 5 April until 28 May 2016, with press night on 12 April 2016. Director Sacha Wares is joined by a formidable creative team, including two powerhouse contemporary designers, Miriam Buether for set design (Wild Swans, Sucker Punch, My Child, Generations), who worked with Sacha on Game at the Almeida in 2015, and Ultz for costume (Jerusalem, Hobson's Choice, Fallout, Pied Pier), who will be collaborating with Miriam, on design, for the very first time. Further creative credits include movement by Leon Baugh, lighting by Jack Knowles and sound by Gareth Fry. Raven Theatre Announces Cast of William Inge's A LOSS OF ROSES

Michael Menendian, Producing Artistic Director of Raven Theatre, has announced casting for A Loss of Roses, the infrequently produced drama by William Inge that premiered on Broadway in 1959 and launched the career of a young Warren Beatty. Raven's production will be the play's first professional staging in the Chicago area since early 1999. The Raven production will run on the company's West Stage from February 17 to April 2, 2016 under the direction of Raven Associate Artistic Director Cody Estle. (more...)
