BWW Review: Jill Kargman is the Quintessential New Yorker in her Café Carlyle Debut STAIRWAY TO CABARET
by Casey Mink - Jan 30, 2017

Jill Kargman is a pleasant singer. Her voice is lovely, in fact, but that is not why audiences joined her inside the legendary Cafe Carlyle for a string of sold-out performances which began on January 17. No, patrons made their way to the Upper East Side venue on this damp winter evening to hear Kargman's hilarious and often cringe-inducing war stories from her New York City upbringing, through her entrance into show business and Manhattan motherhood. Kargman, whose bawdy humor and unapologetic crudeness undoubtedly had some in the room blushing into their cocktails (her euphemism for the mouth, in particular, is a tickler) saliently strung the show together with influential songs from her past which she deemed 'wildly sexist,' and which she was 're-appropriating as a 42-year-old Jewish female.' Chef Gordon Ramsay to Return to ITV with Documentary Series, Daytime Cookery Show and More
by TV News Desk - Jan 30, 2017

ITV today announced that world-renowned chef and global television star Gordon Ramsay is to return to the UK's biggest commercial channel to front a primetime documentary series, a daytime cookery series and as a host on the network's forthcoming late night entertainment series, The Nightly Show. The new programmes in the pipeline mark the superstar chef's return back to where he first launched the globally successful and multi-award nominated Hell's Kitchen. Studio Ramsay will produce a new daytime cookery series for 2017. Due later in the year, Culinary Genius (20 x 60) is an entirely original format mixing food with compelling gameshow and cooking elements. The high octane, large-scale competition will run for four weeks on ITV, and each episode will see nine keen amateur cooks competing across a range of challenges in the hope of taking home a cash prize, and the title of Culinary Genius. Featuring a different guest professional chef each week, with Gordon Ramsay appearing in the first week of shows, the series will air in 2017, and the host will be confirmed in due course. Culinary Genius was commissioned by ITV's Head of Daytime, Helen Warner. Ramsay will also present a primetime hard hitting documentary series, which will begin filming this year, to be produced by Studio Ramsay. The documentary series has been commissioned by ITV's Head of Factual Entertainment, Sue Murphy. Both the documentary series and Culinary Genius will be distributed by All3media International. Ramsay will first be back on ITV in 2017, as guest host for one week of The Nightly Show, ITV's brand new week-night entertainment series. The 30-minute daily entertainment show will air at 10pm and the series will be stripped over five nights a week for an eight week run, featuring a different big name host each week. David Walliams will be in the hot seat for the launch week with more high profile names alongside Ramsay and Walliams to be announced in the near future. The Nightly Show will be produced for ITV by Second Act Productions and the commissioner is ITV's Head of Comedy Entertainment Peter Davey. Gordon Ramsay said: “We're reaching audiences on every level with this one, and I'm really excited to work on three completely different formats with ITV.” ?ITV's Director of Television Kevin Lygo said: 'Gordon is not only a world class chef, but a world class TV presenter, it's a great thing to have him back where it all started, with some brand new shows.  He's an irrepressible talent and we are really looking forward to his return to ITV in 2017.' BWW Review: Fun and Cheeky MATILDA - The Musical Amuses at Segerstrom Center
by Michael L. Quintos - Jan 27, 2017

MATILDA - THE MUSICAL, overall, is genuinely a fun time. It's a cheeky, kid-friendly (and, really, kid-catering) stage musical that has plenty for both kids and their parents to enjoy together. Featuring lively songs by Tim Michin and a witty, yet easily digestible book by Dennis Kelly, MATILDA - THE MUSICAL celebrates how one adorable, truly likable kid ---who, sure, may seem a little odd and different---can overcome a troubled environment and still come out the other side a remarkably self-assured, open-minded, and kind-hearted young lady who can fully distinguish right from wrong---while having a bit of naughty fun along the way. The national touring company of the just recently closed Broadway musical adaptation of Roald Dahl's beloved children's novel continues through January 29 in Costa Mesa. (more...)

Former Newspaper Publisher Beth Anton McCue Releases First Novel
by BWW News Desk - Jan 25, 2017

Former Long Island, New York, newspaper publisher Beth Anton McCue has released her first full-length novel, Oceans Ending. As the story begins, a young woman takes a walk along the beach and makes a grisly discovery. Then people in her small hometown start disappearing without a trace. She begins hearing voices and having disturbing nightmares. Her grasp on sanity slips as she finds it more and more difficult to separate reality from delusion. Then, as an ancient predator gains frightening new powers and threatens to destroy humanity, she is hit with a stunning revelation concerning her own origins. Unsure who to trust or where to turn, she must find the answer before it's too late. Her quest will take her far from home as she is betrayed by those closest to her and aided by unexpected friends. Ultimately she will face the enemy, but will she be willing to sacrifice all she holds dear in order to save the human race from extinction? When asked how she came up with the concept, McCue said, 'My daughter Rachel and I were at the beach discussing plot ideas. Most of them focused on the ocean since that is what was right in front of us.' She credits her daughter Rachel with not only helping her develop the idea but also for encouraging her to write the book. 'Rachel, and my husband, Dan, were instrumental in making this happen. They prodded, advised, edited and most importantly, listened.' McCue is the daughter of the late Karl V. Anton, Jr., founder of Anton Media Group of Long Island. She was the Editor and Publisher of The Northport Journal, a weekly newspaper in Northport, New York, for 10 years. After selling The Northport Journal, she became Editor of the Floral Park Dispatch and The Three Village Times; weekly newspapers located in New York. During that time she was also the producer of Insight Nassau, a weekly interview program that featured her husband, Dan McCue, as host of the show, which was broadcast on the Bravo network. McCue has written for many trade publications, newspapers, and magazines. She is the author of an illustrated children's book, The Quest of the Crystal Steeds, as well as hundreds of (as yet) unpublished poems. She lives in Charleston, S.C., with her husband, Dan, and Foxhound, Madison. (more...)
