Bravo! - 1948 Broadway Page 2

by Heidi Scheuermann - Sep 9, 2014

The Chekhov inspired VANYA AND SONIA AND MASHA AND SPIKE opened this weekend at the ever-so-charming Le Petit Theatre du Vieux Carre under the direction of Ron Gural. Written by Christopher Durang, the story revolves around three middle-aged siblings who tend to get under each other's skin. Vanya (the gay brother) and Sonia (the adopted sister), as we are reminded ad nauseam, have been living together and taking care of their elderly parents until they passed and "have not lived." Neither have jobs, and both are unsatisfied with the way their lives have turned out. Their younger and overly dramatic, self-absorbed sister Masha (the movie star) has been paying for the house that they live in as well as all of their other bills relieving them from the need of finding jobs. You can hear her through your laughter as a regular panelist on NPR's popular rascal of a weekly news quiz show, Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me. She tours regularly, performing standup comedy across the country, causing Bob Zany with the Boston Globe to write: 'Poundstone can regale an audience for several hours with her distinctive brand of wry, intelligent and witty comedy.' Audience members may put it a little less elegantly: 'I peed my pants.' The Comedy of Paula Poundstone Saturday, October 18 at 8:00 PM Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts, 71 E. Main St., Patchogue, NY 11772 Tickets: $25-$45 + fee, available the box office, by phone 631-207-1313, or at (more...)
