Last season, Pablo Heras-Casado made his Carnegie Hall debut as principal conductor of Orchestra of St. Luke's (OSL), earning praise from The New York Times as "the thinking person's idea of a hotshot young conductor" with a largely Romantic program. This season, Heras-Casado shows that he is as versatile as he is thoughtful on the podium, when he opens OSL's Carnegie Hall Orchestra Series on October 23, 2013 at 8:00 PM with a program of Mendelssohn, Britten, and Shostakovich. The seasoncontinues with the Pulitzer Prize-winning How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying, a true pursuit of the American Corporate Dream. The grand finale is the Tony Award-winning Fiddler On The Roof, the definitive musical about reaching for the American Dream. The season hits its first note May 30 and runs through October 5, 2014. The production opens Thursday September 26th and runs four weekends, closing Friday October 18th. BLUEBARN Producing Artistic Director Susan Clement- Toberer directs, with scenic design by Martin Scott Marchitto, costumes by Lindsay Pape, lighting design by Carol Wisner, sound design by Larry Dunn, and properties design by Amy Reiner. Shows run Thursdays-Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays October 6th and 13th at 6 p.m. There is no show on Saturday October 19th, which is the evening of the BLUEBARN's 25th Anniversary Bash. The two-act opera, which features a libretto by award-winning playwright Craig Lucas, is loosely based on true events and follows a lonely detective whose investigation of a seemingly simple crime draws her into a complex web of online intrigue. Alice Coote sings the role of Detective Inspector Anne Strawson and Paul Appleby sings Brian, the 16-year-old boy at the center of her investigations. Sher's staging, a co-production with English National Opera, premiered in London in 2011. (more...)
