Malibu Playhouse Opens 2013-14 Season with THE BURNING BOY Tonight

Black Lab Theatre to Stage ASSISTANCE, Begin. 9/19

In anticipation of the new NBC hit comedy sitcom based on the hit off-Broadway play Assistance, Black Lab Theatre opens its doors on September 19, 2013, with the regional premiere of the original work -- a hilarious single act play that revolves around entry level, 20-somethings frantically trying to please their hellacious boss as calls and drama ring in. The play's TV adaptation (to star Krysten Ritter and Alfred Molina) hits the TV's on NBC later this season with Will Ferrell's Gary Sanchez Productions producing and play's author Leslye Headland signed on as chief writer. Headland herself began her career as the assistant to legendary Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein and captures the angst of a new generation trying to hit the financial big time, one post-it at a time. This 'The Office' meets 'The Devil Wears Prada' Off-Broadway comedy about ambition-driven Generation-Y staffers will run at Wildfish Theater in the Galleria Area September 19 through Oct 5 at 8pm on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays plus a Monday Industry Night on Sept 30. Producer Cedric Yau has announced that Gary Littman & Matt Lutz will step into the roles of Passepartout & Detective Fix (respectively) in Around the World in 80 Days, beginning today, September 3rd. They will replace John Gregorio & Stephen Guarino, whose last performance was Sunday, September 1st. Guy Lemonnier heads the cast as the phlegmatic Phileas Fogg, with Shirine Babb & Jimmy Ray Bennett rounding out the ensemble cast. Rachel Klein directs. (more...)

Lincoln Center Theater, under the direction of Producing Artistic Director Andre Bishop, has announced that Bianca Amato, Shirine Babb, John Patrick Doherty, Austin Durant, Richard Easton, Francesca Faridany, Stephanie Fieger, Malcolm Gets, John Glover, Ben Horner, Ruy Iskandar, Brian d'Arcy James, Byron Jennings, Aaron Krohn, Jeremiah Maestas, Christopher McHale, Jonny Orsini, Sam Poon, Triney Sandoval, Nathan Stark, Daniel Sunjata, Patrick Vaill, Tyler Lansing Weaks and Derek Wilson will join Ethan Hawke and Anne-Marie Duff in its upcoming production of Shakespeare's MACBETH, directed by Jack O'Brien. Enrollment applications are being accepted now for Segerstrom Center's Six Days of Broadway summer musical theater camp, which returns to the Center's campus June 24 through July 7. Students will participate in week-long intensives that feature classes in musical performance, monologue interpretation, audition technique, scene work, dance and more. Lincoln Center Theater (under the direction of Producing Artistic Director Andre Bishop) has announced that actors Santino Fontana and Tony Shalhoub will both be featured as the legendary writer/director Moss Hart at different stages of his life in its upcoming production of ACT ONE, a play written and directed by James Lapine from the autobiography by Moss Hart. The production, which will also feature a third actor who will play Mr. Hart as a young boy, is scheduled to begin previews Thursday, March 20 and open onThursday, April 17 at the Vivian Beaumont Theater (150 West 65 Street). Malibu Playhouse to Open 2013-14 Season with THE BURNING BOY, 9/6

MALIBU PLAYHOUSE will open its 2013-2014 season with the West Coast Premiere of The Dream of the Burning Boy by David West Read on Friday, September 6th. The play will be directed by Edward Edwards, and stars Broadway veteran Jeffrey Hayenga and Tyler Ritter, the youngest son of the late John Ritter. Tickets are $30, and may be purchased through the box office, online atwww.malibuplayhouse.org/burningboy, or by calling 310.589.1998. There will be previews on September 4th and 5th for $20. Virginia Repertory Theatre announces the opening of Harper Lee's classic To Kill A Mockingbird at the Sara Belle and Neil November Theatre, 114 West Broad Street on Friday, September 27 with a Preview on Thursday, September 26. The show runs through October 20, 2013. Long recognized as one of the most influential works of fiction on the criminal justice system, To Kill a Mockingbird and the role of Atticus Finch have impacted lawyers for decades. In recognition of this legacy, Virginia Rep will partner with Leadership Metro Richmond and its members from the legal community to support student matinees for middle and high school students. LMR members from the legal community will facilitate talkbacks with the cast after student matinees and three Friday evening performances. The Honorable Cleo E. Powell, Supreme Court Justice of Virginia, the Honorable Catherine Hammond, Chief Judge of the Henrico Circuit Court, and Kimberly C. Producer Cedric Yau has announced that Gary Littman & Matt Lutz will step into the roles of Passepartout & Detective Fix (respectively) in Around the World in 80 Days, beginning Tuesday, September 3rd. They will replace John Gregorio & Stephen Guarino, whose last performance will be Sunday, September 1st.
