SINK to Play Canal Cafe Theatre, 14-16 NovemberSINK to Play Canal Cafe Theatre, 14-16 November
by BWW News Desk - Oct 14, 2014

Sink is a new one-woman show written and devised by a small company of just two women - the director, Helena Middleton, and the actor, Olivia Emden. Following the recent success of other one-woman shows such as Fleabag and The Edge of Our Bodies, Sink explores similar issues yet portrayed through a vastly different lens. A narrative made up solely of anecdotes that have occurred in a bathroom, this is a one-woman show with a difference. Through dental floss, and fluoride, shower-caps and shampoo, Sink makes its audience privy to a young girl's life and her relationship with her mother, in a wholly original and unexpected way. Playing around with the idea of storytelling, Sink promises laughs, penguins, and a tender portrayal of human relations, all around a bathroom sink. A black comedy with original music composed by Bristol based music producer Jack Drewry. (more...)

BWW Reviews: Broadway at the Beach - Bart Shatto in JEKYLL & HYDEBWW Reviews: Broadway at the Beach - Bart Shatto in JEKYLL & HYDE
by Michael T. Mooney - Jun 24, 2014

Last summer Beach Haven's Surflight Theatre came back from superstorm Sandy with a superb production of 'Les Miserables' starring Broadway's Bart Shatto as Jean Valjean. This summer, Broadway's got 'Les Mis,' but luckily the beach still has Bart. Shatto currently stars as not one, but two 19th century protagonists, 'Jekyll & Hyde,' in Frank Wildhorn's 1997 musical sensation. It's almost as if he were playing Valjean and Javert. If such a thing were possible, Shatto would be the man to do it. (more...)

by Carla Maria Verdino-Sllwold - Jun 18, 2014

On June 13, 2014, Maine State Music Theatre inaugurated the first of a new series of talkbacks, called 'A Peek Behind the Curtain,' designed to share with its audiences the ingredients which go into putting together a successful theatre season. Broadway World local editor, Carla Maria Verdino-Sullwold, was invited to interview a panel comprised of actors, creative and administrative team members from their current show, The Buddy Holly Story, after which the floor was opened to the audience for questions. The event, held at the Curtis Memorial Library, drew a large and enthusiastic crowd, and the exchange was informative, entertaining, and in many ways, an inspiring tribute to the work the company does and to the theatrical profession these artists hold dear. The panelists were Stephanie Dupal. MSMT Managing Director, Kyle Melton, Props Master, Matthew J. Riordan, who plays Niki Sullivan and Tommy Allsup; Lore Eure who portrays Vi Petty, and Chari Burdick, Secretary of the MSMT Angels, a volunteer support group for the theatre. (more...)

'I have crammed so much into the two years since I started in this business. I am sprinting because everyone around me has been doing this for decades and can enjoy their work at a nice peaceful saunter. I am playing catch up.' The tall slim twenty-one-year-old actor-musician smiles humbly. Soft spoken, with a quiet charm and subtle sense of humor, Andy Christopher, the star of Maine State Music Theatre's current production, The Buddy Holly Story, which is garnering rave reviews in its latest production in Brunswick, Maine, is talking about his whirlwind two years as a professional actor and the long, sometimes circuitous, often serendipitous route which has brought him from Texas to New York and onto the national stage.
