Orlandersmith, Hope, Laurence et al. Set for HORSEDREAMS at Rattlestick

Rattlestick Playwrights Theater has announced the cast and creative team for the world premiere of HORSEDREAMS, a new play written by and featuring award-winning and Pulitzer Prize finalist, Dael Orlandersmith. The third production of the company's 17th season, performances of HORSEDREAMS will begin Wednesday, November 9th at Rattlestick Theater (224 Waverly Place - off Seventh Avenue South, between Perry & West 11th Streets). The official opening night is set for Thursday, November 17th. The production is scheduled to run through December 11th. Gordon Edelstein directs. (more...)

Mark Benton will join the London cast The Railway Children on 3 December to play Perks for the final six weeks of Damian Cruden's Olivier award-winning production at Waterloo Station. Since it's opening Cruden's production has now been seen by almost 400,000 people. The final London performance, in the specially created 1000 seat space in the old Eurostar Terminal at Waterloo Station, will be on 8 January 2012. (more...)

At the gala 43rd Annual Equity Jeff Awards held at Drury Lane Oakbrook on Monday, November 7, 'The Madness of George III,' from Chicago Shakespeare Theater, took top honors for a play in the Large Theatre tier with a total of 5 awards, including Production - Play, Director Penny Metropulos and Principal Actor Harry Groener. In musical categories for large theatres, the Goodman Theatre and Shakespeare Theatre Company production of 'Candide' won top awards for a musical with 5 statues, including Production - Musical, New Adaptation for Mary Zimmerman, Principal Actor Geoff Packard and Supporting Actress and Actor, Hollis Resnik and Larry Yando. The revisionist team of Director Charles Newell and Music Director Doug Peck of Court Theatre claimed directing honors for large musicals with their new look at 'The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess.' 'I'm feeling pretty high right now- it's wonderful! I'm so happy for the production and all of the people in the cast even though they weren't recognized. I feel like the play is getting some important recognition because of this. My publicist Mandy called me on the phone to give me the news this morning. I chose not watch the TV. I've done that before and it makes me a nervous wreck- it seems that 'L' comes too late in the alphabet for that. I have to do the show tonight and then I'm taking the cast out for drinks- and trust me, they're big drinkers!' (more...)
