Spoiler Alert! GOTHAM's Gordon Far Too Super to Be TV HeroSpoiler Alert! GOTHAM's Gordon Far Too Super to Be TV Hero
by Matt Tamanini - Sep 29, 2014

Superheroes have been a part of the television landscape almost since the medium was invented. From the days of George Reeves' Superman, to Adam West as Batman, to Hayden Panettiere on HEROES, we have always had a fascination with the idea that extraordinary people, both physically and morally, might be living amongst us. Mercy Killers is in the tradition of American playwrights from Arthur Miller and Clifford Odets, to Tony Kushner and Anna Deavere Smith, in capturing political and social reality in powerful story and unforgettable character. "Over 60% of all bankruptcies in the U.S. are the result of medical debt. What most people don't realize is that the majority of those bankruptcies, the person involved actually had insurance at the onset of their health crises," says Milligan. BWW Reviews: RADIO GOLF Not Quite Ready for Prime TimeBWW Reviews: RADIO GOLF Not Quite Ready for Prime Time
by Herbert Paine - Oct 3, 2014

David Hemphill's production of August Wilson's Radio Golf needs some work on a script that may be the least impressive of August Wilson's epic decalogy of black life in America, the Pittsburgh Cycle. If there are bright spots in the show, they are in the performances of T.A. Burrows and Roosevelt Watts. Both have infectious comic sensibilities and a firm command of their place on the stage. The Reina Sofia Museum Presents REALLY USEFUL KNOWLEDGEThe Reina Sofia Museum Presents REALLY USEFUL KNOWLEDGE
by BWW News Desk - Oct 29, 2014

The notion of 'really useful knowledge' was originated from the workers' awareness of the need for self-education in the early 19th century. In the 1820s and 1830s, workers' organizations in United Kingdom introduced this phrase to describe 'unpractical' knowledge like politics, economics and philosophy, as opposed to what factory owners proclaimed to be “useful knowledge”. Some time earlier capitalists began investing in advancement of their businesses through funding the education of workers in 'applicable' skills and disciplines such as engineering, physics, chemistry or math. by Matt Tamanini - Oct 27, 2015

TV's newest superhero show is startlingly different than nearly everything else on the current comic book landscape, and it's not just because its hero wears a skirt instead of tights. No, CBS's SUPERGIRL stands out because it dares to have fun; it dares to have a hero who is optimistic and embraces the joy of being super; and, perhaps most surprisingly, it dares to film a majority of its scenes during daylight hours. New Brunswick, NJ – To honor the generosity of the Voorhees family, whose major gifts have greatly enriched the arts at Rutgers University, the Zimmerli Art Museum is pleased to present A Place in America: Celebrating the Legacy of Ralph and Barbara Voorhees, on view through February 8, 2015. Featuring a selection of prints and drawings by some of the most important American artists working between 1880 and the late 1940s, the exhibition celebrates places across America from “sea to shining sea.” From quiet rural settings to dramatic views of urban landmarks, from inspiring wilderness vistas to industrial scenes: the exhibition demonstrates how artists helped to define the changing character of America's landscape, both natural and man-made. The exhibition also highlights prints by Arthur Wesley Dow, Stuart Davis, Blanche Lazzell, Louis Lozowick, and John Marin, whose styles influenced the course of American art of the 20th century.
