E! Orders THE ROYALS with Elizabeth Hurley as First Original Scripted Series

E! announced today that it has greenlit the network's first-ever original scripted series, “The Royals,” a one hour drama about a fictional British Royal family set in modern day London. Produced by Lionsgate, the Royals inhabit a world of opulence and regal tradition that caters to any and every desire, but one that also comes with a price tag of duty, destiny and intense public scrutiny. The sweeping series, which is set to premiere in 2015, is executive produced, written and directed by Mark Schwahn (“One Tree Hill”), and executive produced by Brian Robbins and Joe Davola (“One Tree Hill,” “Smallville”). Patti LuPone Set to Play 'Moll' in THE CRADLE WILL ROCK Benefit Concert for The Acting Company, 5/19

Patti LuPone steps back into the role that led to her 1985 Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical as Moll in The Cradle Will Rock on Monday, May 19, 7pm at Broadway's Bernard Jacobs Theatre, 242 West 45th Street. The concert staging of Marc Blitzstein's iconic work will benefit The Acting Company, co-founded by John Houseman, Cradle's original producer in 1937, who directed Ms. LuPone and a cast of Acting Company Alumni in a revival almost 50 years later. Lonny Price (Lincoln Center's Sweeney Todd and Company) will direct; Michael Barrett (Caramoor, NY Festival of Song) will again serve as musical director and play the score as he did in the 1980's production. The National Portrait Gallery and the Art Fund Receive Over £3.2 million to Secure the Last Self-Portrait of Sir Anthony Van Dyck

The National Portrait Gallery and the Art Fund today (Friday 31 January 2014) announced that they have received over £3.2 million in support of their appeal to secure the last self-portrait of Sir Anthony Van Dyck, and prevent it from going to a private collection overseas. This includes a recent pledge of £1 million from The Monument Trust, the largest single gift yet given to the campaign. A further £1 million has been raised from the public, with more than 5,600 individual contributions received so far from supporters both nationally and internationally. (more...)

Goodman Theatre heats up 2014 with Venus in Fur-a "smart, sexy, sinister comedy" (Vogue) and "suspense-packed study of the erotics (and the semiotics) of power" (New York Times)-penned by theatrical mastermind David Ives. In her Goodman mainstage debut, Joanie Schultz directs the Chicago premiere production of the Broadway triumph that earned two Tony nominations, two Drama League nominations and a Drama Desk nomination. Rufus Collins (Broadway's The Royal Family and To Be or Not To Be) portrays playwright/director Thomas Novachek and Amanda Drinkall (Great Expectations at Strawdog Theatre Company, Measure for Measure at the Goodman;) portrays Vanda Jordan-the preternaturally talented actress whose audition for the gifted-but-demanding playwright/director's new work becomes an electrifying game of cat and mouse that blurs the lines between fantasy and reality, seduction and power, love and sex. A just-released statement reads: 'Regrettably we have to announce that the Alfie Boe Winter US Tour is being cancelled for now. We hope to reschedule and will announce as soon as we are able.
