Tony Kushner Receives Chicago Tribune Literary Prize and AVP Award; Talks Politics and Violence with Chris Jones

It has been a good, anti-violence filled week for Tony and Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Tony Kushner. This past Sunday, November 8, Kushner was presented with the 2009 Chicago Tribune Literary Prize at the Symphony Center. As part of the event, presented by the Chicago Humanities Festival, Kushner engaged with Chicago theater critic Chris Jones in a special Q & A. on politics and violence. The next day, on Monday November 9, Kushner was honored by the New York City Anti-Violence Project (AVP) during their 13th annual Courage Awards at the W New York Ballroom. (more...)

Denis O'Hare and Lisa Peterson to Lead AN ILIAD at New York Theatre Workshop

New York Theatre Workshop (NYTW) Artistic Director James C. Nicola and Managing Director William Russo have announced that the New York premiere of An Iliad, by Denis O'Hare and Lisa Peterson, based on Homer's Iliad translated by Robert Fagles, directed by Ms. Peterson, will begin performances on Wednesday, February 15, 2012, at NYTW, 79 East 4 Street, between Bowery and Second Avenue. Mr. O'Hare and Stephen Spinella will alternate performances of the play. Opening nights are Tuesday, March 6, 2012 (Mr. O'Hare) and Wednesday, March 7, 2012 (Mr. Spinella). (more...)

The Know Theatre delivers part two of the epic Angels in America as well as they delivered part one. The first half, Millennium Approaches (which will be playing concurrently through the run of the second part) focuses on the lead up of the arrival of a mysterious angel.
