BWW Recap: It's a Nice Day for a Plaid Wedding on This Week's OUTLANDER
by Kara McCoy - Sep 20, 2014

This week's episode of OUTLANDER was a pretty special one, so mazel tov, newlyweds; this recap's for you. We get an opening shot of Claire and Frank walking hand and hand, all lovey dovey, down the street—a flashback to their own wedding day, which was a very simple, and totally spontaneous, affair. They share a kiss and then—oops, snap back to reality—we're in Scotland again, and it's Jamie and Claire doing the kissing. Because they're married. It happened. If you sneezed, you probably missed the entire ceremony, it's that short. But don't you worry, fellow romantics—the bulk of the episode is devoted to backtracking, so you get a closer look at the actual wedding eventually, piece by piece. First, however, we get a snapshot of the tension-ridden awkwardfest that is the wedding night. Claire and Jamie are left alone in the honeymoon suite while the party guests grow ever rowdier, and no doubt drunker, just outside their door, refusing to go to bed until the marriage has been made, er, shall we say, official. BWW Reviews: WAIT UNTIL DARK Intrigues Viewers
by Marietta Lunceford - Oct 6, 2014

My visit into the mystery genre was a fun night of theatre. In the last act I kept finding myself on the edge of my seat, holding my throat. As always, South City does a great job with the space they have. In this instance I think being so close in the intimate setting made for a more heightened sense of excitement. That is not to say I wouldn't love to see them in a bigger space so more people could share in this talented group's work. WAIT UNTIL DARK continues this weekend and next weekend on October 9, 10 and 11. Go to www.southcitytheatre.com for reservations. (more...)

BWW Reviews: FAILURE: A LOVE STORY
by Kristen Morale - May 26, 2015

The idea of love and what is meant to come of it usually implies a happy ending for the woman who falls in love with her soul-mate, or for the man who couldn't imagine a life without the daily practice of bestowing affection upon his beloved. Love is meant to bring out the best in people and allow them to flourish, implying that a greater and more joyous future is to come because fate has somehow brought them together for just such a reason: to be happy. What happens, though, when the concept of fate seems to be a bit more of an interference than it is a means of bringing people together towards the happiness they so desire? What is to be expected when every effort of moving forward and bringing love back into one's life becomes such an onerous task, such a fruitless endeavor that the concept of love becomes a personally unreachable goal? In what is both a fairly comical yet rather somber telling of a man who falls in love with three sisters and is perpetually left alone once each meets her untimely end, Failure: A Love Story triumphantly kicks off Cape Rep's 2015 season and will no doubt leave its audiences thinking that the only failure to be found in this show is solely found in its name. BWW Reviews: Jazzy ALEXIS COLE Brings Her Effortless Musicality to Café Noctambulo
by Alix Cohen - May 24, 2015

Alexis Cole makes it look easy. Even up-tempo, the performer never appears to be less than relaxed and enjoying what she's doing. Somewhere in the middle of her first number Saturday night at Café Noctambulo (at Pangea Restaurant on 2nd Avenue between 11th and 12th streets) the room seems to exhale. This evening, with her familiar collaborators David Finck (bass) and Kenny Hassler (drums) communicating in musical shorthand, Cole (also on piano) offers jazz, swing, bossa nova, and pop, putting her own subtle stamp on each, never, thankfully, losing melodic path. BWW Blog: Jake Winn of Signature Theatre's KID VICTORY - Eye Contact
by Guest Blogger: Jake Winn - Feb 5, 2015

The other day, during a ten-minute break, several of us were talking about the importance of eye contact. Someone talked about an actor who chose not to make eye contact with other actors while he was performing. Instead, this actor would look at the forehead of his scene partner. When the break was over, and we delved back into the world of Kid Victory, I couldn't help but linger on that story. The story became a tale of warning about being an actor who acts in a void. BWW Reviews: OUT LOUD Kicks Off Third Season with Unique and Exciting FEFU AND HER FRIENDS
by Robert Barossi - Feb 23, 2015

There are an endless number of ways for a new theater company to make its mark. In a crowded artistic and theatrical landscape, a fledgling company must find a way to stand out and be noticed. A way to make its voice heard. Some will succeed spectacularly while others will fail just as spectacularly. Now entering its third season, OUT LOUD Theatre has begun to carve out quite a successful path for itself. Last season's Metamorphoses proved just how talented and skillful the company could be at pure storytelling. This season's opening show, Fefu and Her Friends, allows the company to demonstrate equal talent in bringing a distinctive voice and vision to a theatrical event that is entertaining and exhilarating.
