Baltimore, Md. (November 5, 2014) — In a program that continues the 2014-2015 season theme of spirituality in music, Music Director Marin Alsop pays tribute to her mentor Leonard Bernstein. Maestra Alsop will lead the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) in a concert featuring the works of both Bernstein and Beethoven, Friday, November 21 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, November 23 at 3 p.m at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall and Saturday, November 22 at 8 p.m. at The Music Center at Strathmore. Bernstein's Chichester Psalms and Symphony No. 1, “Jeremiah” are accompanied by Beethoven's Symphony No. 7, the last work Bernstein conducted before his death in 1990. Joining Marin Alsop and the BSO will be members of the Cathedral Choral Society, the BSO's first-ever collaboration with the Washington, D.C.-based choir. Museum of the Moving Image has announced the lineup for its First Look Festival, an expanded and reconceived version of its annual showcase for inventive new international cinema. Now in its fourth year, First Look,with a lineup that has expanded both in size and scope, is now officially a festival, the first major moving image event of the year. First Look will take place at the Museum from January 9 through 18, 2015. “First Look reflects the breadth and adventurousness that defines the Museum,” said Chief Curator David Schwartz. “This year, we are expanding beyond programs in the Redstone Theater, with screenings in the Bartos Screening Room, and a newly commissioned large-scale video installation.” The Museum is also announcing a programming partnership with FIDMarseille, the cutting-edge documentary festival programmed under the leadership of Jean-Pierre Rehm. New Brunswick, NJ – To honor the generosity of the Voorhees family, whose major gifts have greatly enriched the arts at Rutgers University, the Zimmerli Art Museum is pleased to present A Place in America: Celebrating the Legacy of Ralph and Barbara Voorhees, on view through February 8, 2015. Featuring a selection of prints and drawings by some of the most important American artists working between 1880 and the late 1940s, the exhibition celebrates places across America from “sea to shining sea.” From quiet rural settings to dramatic views of urban landmarks, from inspiring wilderness vistas to industrial scenes: the exhibition demonstrates how artists helped to define the changing character of America's landscape, both natural and man-made. The exhibition also highlights prints by Arthur Wesley Dow, Stuart Davis, Blanche Lazzell, Louis Lozowick, and John Marin, whose styles influenced the course of American art of the 20th century.
