Two-time Pulitzer Prize winner August Wilson takes us to the beginning of his 20th century cycle with this play set in 1904 Pittsburgh. When Citizen Barlow, in spiritual turmoil, arrives at Aunt Ester�s house claiming sanctuary from Caesar, the local constable, he sets into motion a series of events, including a journey to the City of Bones, which leads to startling discoveries and sets him on a course where duty leads to redemption.

The production will also star Tony Award-winner and Academy Award-nominee Viola Davis. FENCES, directed by Kenny Leon, will open on Monday, April 26, 2010 at the Cort Theatre (138 West 48th Street). Two-time Academy Award-winner Denzel Washington, who is set to appear in August Wilson's FENCES this spring, expressed some lingering regret in turning down the Brad Pitt role in the 1995 thriller SEVEN. Washington told Entertainment Weekly, 'The only film that was sort of dark that I'd turned down was SEVEN. They offered me the Brad Pitt part, but I was like, 'This is so dark & evil.' 'Black Nativity' runs at Lipscomb's Shamblin Theatre 12-18 through 12-20

Amun Ra Theatre's jeff obafemi carr came off the roof and hit the ground running, with the fifth anniversary production of the company's Black Nativity by Langston Hughes as the first offering in the 2010 season. Black Nativity will feature the children of the Amun Ra Performing Arts Academy, alongside some of the stars of previous Black Nativity productions of the past five years. Black Nativity runs December 18-20 at the Shamblin Theatre on the campus of David Lipscomb University. This marks the first year the show will be produced on the Lipscomb campus, and the university is a major sponsor of the event. Lipscomb staff and students will have the opportunity to work with ART's professional crew, which includes nationally recognized lighting designer Scott Leathers. (more...)

Hartford Stage has announced a dynamic 2010-2011 season which includes Tony winners Ben Vereen and Chita Rivera in their SummerStage program.
