The Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University, in association with Michigan Opera Theatre (MOT), presents the Chicago premiere of Margaret Garner, a new American opera based on one of the most significant and controversial fugitive slave stories in pre-Civil War America. The opera will be directed by Kenny Leon, whose recent Broadway credits include the Tony Award-winning A Raisin in the Sun; Gem of the Ocean and Radio Golf. Margaret Garner features music by Grammy Award-winning composer Richard Danielpour and a libretto by Nobel and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Toni Morrison, a novelist noted for her poetically charged and richly expressive depictions of the African American experience. The revival script includes significant rewrites to the original text, as well as hilarious songs freshly scribed by Guare himself. McCarter Theatre Names Shields New Managing Director

McCarter Theatre is pleased to welcome its new Managing Director, Timothy J. Shields. Mr. Shields, a nationally recognized theater executive, was appointed Managing Director by the McCarter Theatre Board of Trustees in September and began work at McCarter on January 5, 2009. 'My acceptance of the position at McCarter Theatre represents something of a homecoming, as I worked at McCarter from 1983 to 1992, and most of my family is on the East Coast,' said Shields. 'The opportunity to become Managing Director of a Tony Award-winning regional theater with such a great reputation was simply too hard to pass up.' He added, 'The unbelievably high level of the productions and presentations that McCarter does for its audiences is work that any arts professional would be pleased to be associated with, and everyone strives to make the work even better. Any organization that has that sort of ambition is one that I'm proud to lead.' Mr. Shields comes to McCarter from Milwaukee Repertory Theater, where he has served as Managing Director since 1998. During his tenure, The Rep's operating budget more than doubled, ticket sales and contributed income reached record levels, and statewide tours of Rep productions in 2006, 2007, and 2008 were re-established. Guthrie's Tours And HENRY V Production Brings Big Success

The Acting Company and Guthrie Theater production of Shakespeare's Henry V ended its hugely successful run in the Dowling Studio this past Sunday, having played to a stunning 95% of capacity during the 26 performance engagement. Henry V marks another triumph in the long line of successful Guthrie presentations and collaborations in both the Dowling Studio and on the McGuire Proscenium Stage. The Guthrie began presenting the work of smaller theater companies in 2006 as part of the first season in its three-stage complex. The presentations proved so successful for both the Guthrie and the producing companies that many of these productions have become highlights of the Twin Cities theater season and insure future artistic collaborations at the Guthrie. The Human Race Theater Opens HIS EYE IS ON THE SPARROW

The Human Race Theatre Company will bring a new musical about the rags-to-riches life of one of the 20th century's most acclaimed performers to The Loft Theatre in June. Ethel Waters: His Eye Is On The Sparrow tells Waters' story, from birth to a 13-year old mother in a Philadelphia slum, through massive trials and travails, to becoming a star of nightclubs, recordings, Broadway, film and the Billy Graham Crusade. While His Eye Is On The Sparrow presents a happy opportunity for local audiences to see a fine new work, one that includes such massive hits for Waters as the title song and 'Stormy Weather,' the event that led to its selection is a sad one. American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) continues its 2008-09 season with John Guare's Rich & Famous, directed by John Rando (Urinetown, The Musical and Wedding Singer on Broadway) in its first major revival since its 1976 New York debut. From the ingenious mind of John Guare, who brought Six Degrees of Separation and The House of Blue Leaves to the American stage, this delicious dark comedy springs to life with twisted humor, rapid-fire dialogue, and outrageous plot twists. The revival script includes significant rewrites to the original text, as well as hilarious songs freshly scribed by Guare himself. In Rich and Famous, playwright Bing Ringling yearns to savor the sweet taste of celebrity, and he's hoping play number 844 will be his lucky break. Bertish, Chadwick Join The Cast Of 'MRS WARREN'S PROFESSION'

McCarter Theatre Center announces the complete cast of George Bernard Shaw's still provocative Mrs. Warren's Profession, the third show of the theater's 2008-2009 season. Directed by McCarter Artistic Director Emily Mann, the production will feature Suzanne Bertish, Robin Chadwick, Edward Hibbert, Madeleine Hutchins, Michael Izquierdo, and Rocco Sisto. August Wilson's Joe Turner's Come and Gone to Play Belasco Theatre

According to the web site for the Lincoln Center Theater (under the direction of Andre Bishop, Artistic Director, and Bernard Gersten, Executive Producer) it's new production of August Wilson's award-winning play Joe Turner's Come And Gone has finally found a home - at Broadway's Belasco Theater.
