Chicago's selection of seasonal shows this winter will include the exciting addition of Theo Ubique's updating of the Madrigal Dinner tradition for all audiences. Song, food, poetry and variety acts will combine into a most festive feast for A Very Merry Madrigal. Weekend matinee performances plus reduced ticket prices for children under12 will make the event accessible and affordable for families as well as adults. Conceived by David Heimann and Fred Anzevino, A Very Merry Madrigal will offer yuletide folk music from the 15th Century to the 21st, with a cast of six singers and instrumentalists performing new arrangements by Aaron Benham. A wassail (non-alcoholic hot mulled cider) and a figgy pudding dessert will be served to all and an optional dinner entree will be available for an additional charge. Mixed in between the songs, food, and drink will be readings of poems by Shakespeare, Dante and Robert Frost as well as variety acts and selection of a King and Queen from the audience. (more...)

Ann Hampton Callaway's latest show in late November at 54 Below—her new home away from home—was another one of those slam dunk entertainments she's produced in the past year or so that clearly have put her near the top, if not at the very top, of the female cabaret performer depth chart. Listen, not counting the Broadway stars like Patti LuPone (who are now doing cabaret, mainly at 54 Below), or the top-notch jazz singers like Jane Monheit, you be hard-pressed to think of any major veteran cabaret singer in the country—and that includes Barbara Cook, Marilyn Maye, Andrea Marcovicci, and Amanda McBroom—who are plying the trade better these days than Ann Hampton Callaway. As previously reported, the musical Ghostlight, by Tim Realbuto and Matthew Martin, which had two starry backer's auditions on December 2nd at the The New 42nd Street Studios in NYC, has added a 29- hour industry reading next month due to popular demand. This is one of the first times a new musical has added another presentation nearly a month after its first one. The December 2nd evening was directed by Martin and Realbuto and featured an all-star cast which included 'That's So Raven's' Anneliese van der Pol as Olive Thomas, Three-time Tony nominee Carolee Carmello as Billie Burke, Tony nominee Robert Cuccioli as Ziegfeld, 'Pippin' star Rachel Bay Jones as Molly Cook, Kimberly Faye Greenberg as Fanny Brice, and Trevor McQueen as Jack Pickford. The 2012-2013 Center Theatre Group/Ahmanson Theatre season was announced today by CTG Artistic Director Michael Ritchie. The new season, the 46th season at the Music Center of Los Angeles, will include Jeff Goldblum in the West Coast premiere of the smart, sexy, new Broadway comedy "Seminar," Rachel York in the beloved 1930s musical romp - Cole Porter's "Anything Goes," the American premiere and pre-Broadway presentation of the dramatic musical "Backbeat" which features classic rock 'n' roll in its story of the birth of the Beatles, Tracie Bennett starring as the iconic Judy Garland in the West Coast premiere of the acclaimed play with music - "End of the Rainbow," and the daring new musical that explores a shocking event in American history - Kander and Ebb's "The Scottsboro Boys."
