Orange County, Calif.—May 20, 2015—A grand, meaningful and operatic evening of music awaits, as Music Director Carl St.Clair leads Pacific Symphony's final concert of his 25th anniversary season, “Fire and Water,” a program representing the innovative and defining characteristics of the orchestra. Furthering St.Clair's commitment to new music, the evening includes the world premiere of “Siren Songs” by Laura Karpman, accompanied by video and animation by Tempe Hale, who has used footage from Gregory MacGillivray, Academy-Award nominated cinematographer of films such as “The Living Sea” and “Dolphins.” Karpman's piece explores women and the ocean and is based on a set of poems by internationally known poet, Amy Gerstler, who is also a professor at UC Irvine. For the fiery finale, St.Clair leads the orchestra in selections from Wagner's epic “Götterdämmerung,” (“Twilight of the Gods”), featuring Metropolitan Opera superstar, Deborah Voigt, who brings her beautiful and powerful voice to Brünnhilde's famous “Immolation Scene.”  (more...)

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, beloved as one of the world's most popular dance companies, will return to Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts for a two-week season at the David H. Koch Theater, June 10 – 21, 2015. The 15-performance engagement kicks off with The Ailey Spirit Gala benefit on Wednesday, June 10th at 7PM. Rising stars of Ailey II, The Ailey School and AileyCamp will join Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater for a special one-night-only performance, including the American masterpiece Revelations. On Thursday, June 11th at 6PM*, a free dance class for the public on Lincoln Center's Josie Robertson Plaza, sponsored by General Motors, will precede that evening's world premiere of Exodus, by bold hip-hop choreographer Rennie Harris. The second Teens Take the Met!, a museum-wide creative explosion of activities for teens, will be hosted by The Metropolitan Museum of Art on Friday, June 5, 5:00-8:00 p.m.  More than 40 cultural organizations from throughout New York's five boroughs have teamed up to provide teens with an interactive taste of what they can do across the city at organizations large and small. The program includes workshops and hand-on activities in the visual arts, music, theatre, and dance, culminating with a dance party. Beer, food and music will be on tap for the Oakland East Bay Symphony second annual Bach & Brew event scheduled this year for Saturday, June 13, from 4 to 7 pm at Drakes Brewery, 1933 Davies Street, San Leandro, 94577. As part of the special offerings for the evening, Drakes will brew a limited-edition “Symphony Beer,” having selected a recipe from one of Oakland East Bay Symphony's many musicians who are avid home brewers to be sold at this event. Other Drakes's beers and food will be available for purchase, and members of the Oakland East Bay Symphony, conducted by Michael Morgan, will perform throughout the event including, of course, music by Bach and others. Last season, 400 Symphony and epicurean enthusiasts attended the inaugural Oakland East Bay Symphony Bach & Brew event, making it a sold-out success. (more...)
