New York City Center's 11th annual Fall for Dance Festival will feature free performances in Central Park and 24 acclaimed dance companies and artists from around the world, in six unique programs in September and October 2014. In keeping with the Festival's commitment to make dance accessible to everyone, the Festival will kick off with two FREE evenings of dance at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park, in association with The Public Theater, today and tomorrow, September 12 and 13 (rain date, September 14) and will continue at City Center from October 8 - October 19 with all tickets at $15. The Festival's many free pre-show events will include dance lessons and panels by choreographers, artists and dance educators. Tickets will go on sale Sunday, September 14 at 11 a.m. (more...)

How are cast members supporting each other during 10-out-of-12's? (In case you're unfamiliar with the term, An American in Paris has been working 10 out of 12 scheduled hours this past week at the Palace Theatre. This is a customary, if not notorious, phase of teching a Broadway show.) It's an intense week; there are long hours, frequent adjustments, and a lot of stopping and starting. But each day is incredibly rewarding. There's a lot of first time magic that happens in the theater during tech - you see lighting cues that transform a scene, dazzling new costumes, projections and effects; and the show changes from barebones to stunning before your eyes. The new Broadway musical An American in Paris is now in previews and just opened last night, April 12, 2015 at the Palace Theatre (Broadway at 47th Street). An American In Paris is directed and choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon. Inspired by the Academy-Award winning film, An American In Paris brings this classic tale to Broadway for the first time with music and lyrics by George Gershwin and Ira Gershwin and a book by Tony nominee and Pulitzer Prize finalist Craig Lucas.
