BWW Blog: Michael Hartung - Why Do I Dress Up Like A Pirate for a Living?
by Guest Blogger: Michael Hartung - Jul 12, 2016

I can't even tell you how many times I have had a conversation that goes something like this: 'Why do I do this?' As an actor this can feel like a hard question to answer. I believe the arts are incredibly important in our world, especially in times when it is difficult to see past the heartbreaking events that seem to be occurring more and more frequently around the globe. But I have found that it can be challenging for me to explain the inherently intangible yet far reaching benefits of theatre and the arts.  (more...)

BWW Review: Comparing Small Things To Great: NOT MEDEA at CATF
by Jack L. B. Gohn - Jul 12, 2016

The great legends and myths have their roots in common human experience. Yet it is not always obvious which experience gives rise to them. Take the myth of Medea, the sorceress who aided the hero Jason and who, when Jason cast her aside to make a politically expedient marriage, murdered their two sons. Only part of the story is commonplace: the part about Medea being cast aside. We all know (if we are not ourselves) women (and men) whose spouses have deserted them and left them heartbroken. Few of us, however, know parents, and especially mothers, who have murdered their children for that reason. Nor is it fair to trace the roots of the myth to occasional feelings of 'wanting to kill' Junior; those feelings are seldom serious to begin with, and almost always transient. (more...)

BWW Blog: De'Ja Williams - The Power of A Good Team
by Guest Blogger: De'Ja Williams - Jul 11, 2016

Taking care of yourself is often ranked as the top priority amongst actors. You need to be able to pull off long rehearsal hours standing, singing, and/or dancing. You need to be able to bend and move the way your director envisions you doing, so in that case, taking care of your body is the most important so that you have a good personal support system. However, I might argue that taking care of those around you is equally important. The friends and allies you make within the industry are often the difference between a cannonball and a belly flop.  (more...)
