2009 Theatre Hall of Fame Inductees Announced

The 2009 Theatre Hall of Fame inductees have been revealed and include such icons as actors Jim Dale, John McMartin and Lynn Redgrave; producers Roger Berlind and Ted Mann; composers Stephen Schwartz and Andrew Lloyd Webber; and, posthumously, the late playwright/actor Charles Ludlum. The Annual Theatre Hall of Fame ceremony, now in its 39th year, will be held Jan. 25, 2010, in the Gershwin Theatre's North Rotunda. Terry Hodge Taylor is producing the event. (more...)

A spokesman for composer Andrew Lloyd Webber confirmed to press this morning that he'd been diagnosed with prostate cancer, in its very early stages. His spokesperson added that 'Andrew is now undergoing treatment and expects to be fully back at work before the end of the year.' (more...)

Andrew Lloyd Webber was recently admitted back to the hospital having developed a 'postoperative infection following surgery to remove his prostate three weeks ago.' Lloyd Webber remained in the hospital for a few days to monitor the infection and is now resting at home. The famed maestro of the musical stage posted a thank you message on his official website in response to the many get well wishes he received. (more...)

Webber's official web site confirms the news, noting that 'Andrew has been re-admitted to hospital tonight following his operation for prostate cancer. Auditions began this weekend for the next star of the West End, as Andrew Lloyd Webber launched his search for the next Dorothy in his upcoming production of the Wizard of Oz. The lucky leading lady will be selected over the course of a several week 'audition' process on the BBC1 reality television show Over the Rainbow. 'Jesus Christ Superstar' at The Boiler Room Theatre

Green has long been heralded as one of the region's finest music directors, while Ditty has gained a justifiably stellar reputation as one of the best choreographers around. With this production, which exemplifies the term 'all-singing, all-dancing,' it's apropos then that the two would share the directing credit. Obviously, from the first notes of the overture to the final tormented moments of Jesus Christ's death on the cross, the shared vision of the two men is vividly portrayed and stunningly realized. The work, widely considered the first 'rock opera,' is movingly exhilarating, taking audiences on a veritable rollercoaster ride of emotional highs and lows. (more...)
