Kimberly Mitchell Pens 'Life Under Blankets'
by BWW News Desk - Jan 23, 2017

'Life Under Blankets': an entrancing story about one woman's travels through the wilderness of anxiety and depression from an early age. 'Life Under Blankets' is the creation of published author, Kimberly Mitchell, who earned her bachelor's degree in English education at the University of Illinois, Circle Campus in Chicago. She went on to pursue a master's degree in education in the field of curriculum and instruction. Kimberly's passion for writing came to life in the fourth grade when she wrote her very first story and was allowed to read it to her class. She thrilled her young audience with a short tale entitled 'Being a Kid.' She went on to convey her love of reading and writing by teaching middle school scholars in a large urban school district. Kimberly was a guest blogger on 'The Truth Revealed', where some of her earlier works can be found. Her writing focuses on overcoming outrageous obstacles that might normally crush individuals under ordinary circumstances. The turning point in her life was when depression struck her, leaving her overwhelmed, fearful, and with feelings of worthlessness. It took her breath away! Kimberly fought the cruelty of depression, which in turn taught her how to help others with similar circumstances. Currently, she resides in Illinois with her three beautiful daughters and two persnickety cats. (more...)

The Lake Effect Fringe Festival Kicks Off 5th Season
by BWW News Desk - Jan 21, 2017

A coming of age story that is relatable to all. Its themes of community, family, questioning faith, fear of the unknown, acceptance, and love speak to audiences of all ages and backgrounds. The play's ensemble driven story-telling, sometimes delightful and sometimes devastating emotional depth, as well as its often presentational style allows this play to truly connect to its audiences. The story follows fifteen-year-old June Muldoon, her mother, the colorful townsfolk of Gray, Indiana, and the mysterious doctor who crash lands in the center of the "most boring town in the world." Seeking to raise questions about what it means to be a part of this incredibly diverse world, the heart of this play touches on themes relevant to all. Fast-paced clever staging, beautiful lyrical narration, and a small but talented nine person ensemble, this play offers a compelling story in an immersive setting that is sure to offer a lot of laughs and a few tears.  (more...)
