Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST) announced today casting for Cyrano de Bergerac, launching the Theater's 2013-2014 Season. CST's new production of Edmond Rostand's timeless classic, adapted and translated by Anthony Burgess, marks the return to CST of director Penny Metropulos and film and stage actor Harry Groener, the duo behind the Theater's award-winning 2011 production of The Madness of George III. Featuring some of the most romantic and witty verse written for the stage, Cyrano de Bergerac is a poignant and entertaining homage to poetry, love and panache which will run in CST's Courtyard Theater September 24 through November 10, 2013. For the fifth year, Music Box Theatre presents Noir City: Chicago in collaboration with the Film Noir Foundation. The eagerly anticipated annual festival combines extraordinary rarities with revivals of recognized classics from the post-War film noir heyday. The 'Czar of Noir' Eddie Muller and noir author-historian Alan K. Rode will be in attendance throughout the week to host and introduce films. Noir City: Chicago unspools Friday August 23-Thursday, August 29 at Music Box Theatre, 3733 N. Southport Avenue. 50 SHADES! THE MUSICAL first spurt onto the solar plexus of the music theater scene on August 22, 2012 during the 2012 Edinburg Fringe Festival. Edging past SPANK! THE FIFTY SHADES PARODY by premiering about two months before its competition, 'The Original Parody' has received glowing reviews in Edinburg, Chicago, New York City, and the other markets the show has played. With a sturdy and somewhat ravenous fan base, recording a cast album was definitely a logical progression. As this musical will soon be playing in my neck of the woods, I was excited to get a chance to experience the music from the show. As I listened to the songs, I found them entertaining but not highly memorable. (more...)

For the fifth show in their 42nd annual summer season, Cortland Repertory Theatre will present the regional premiere of 'Shipwrecked! An Entertainment - The Amazing Adventures of Louis de Rougemont, as told by himself.' Written by Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Donald Margulies, this play promises to be a unique theatrical experience for young and old alike. Performances of this adventure tale will run from August 14 - 24 with evening performances at 7:30. Matinees are available on August 16, 18, and 21 at 2:00 PM. Tickets may be purchased by calling 800-427-6160 or at the CRT Box Office at 24 Port Watson Street in Cortland. Producers Daryl Roth and Eva Price announced today that Emmy Award-winning actor Tom Skerritt will make his Broadway debut in A Time to Kill, Tony Award-winning playwright Rupert Holmes' stage adaptation of John Grisham's best-selling novel. Skerritt will portray Lucien Wilbanks, the mentor to protagonist Jake Brigance (played by Sebastian Arcelus), in this thrilling, iconic courtroom drama. Skerritt joins the previously announced Sebastian Arcelus, Chike Johnson, Patrick Page, Tony Award winner Tonya Pinkins, Fred Dalton Thompson, John Douglas Thompson, and Ashley Williams plus Dashiell Eaves, J.R. DENVER, Aug. 14, 2013 - Faculty and staff from Westwood College recently hit the streets on a mission to do 'Good Works' by helping more than 38 local community organizations throughout the U.S. The result? They contributed more than 2,700 volunteer community service hours, plus raised $25,000 to support select organizations in each Westwood College campus region. The month-long Good Works program is a part of Westwood's ongoing community outreach commitment, whereby each of the college's 14 campuses participated in a variety of projects, fundraisers and education-focused summer camps.
