Orange County, Calif.—June 26, 2014—Pacific Symphony tackles the music of one of America's most celebrated composers—George Gershwin—for a memorable night of timeless music, as Mercedes-Benz presents Summer Festival 2014 continues with “Gershwin Greats.” Gershwin was a composer who conducted it all—taking Broadway by storm, selling out concert halls and opera houses and, as a result, defining an era. This program of classic Americana, led by Music Director Carl St.Clair (conducting the first concert of his 25th anniversary season), features guest pianist Jeffrey Biegel, the extraordinary voices of Angela Brown (soprano), Kevin Deas (bass), and the Carver Cossey Singers. Pearl Cleage Kicks Off 4th Collision Project for Teens, Based on THE GRAPES OF WRATH; Performances Set for 7/11-12

Twenty students gathered at the Alliance Theatre today to begin the thirteenth annual Collision Project. This diverse group of teenagers from around the metro Atlanta area will explore a classic text under the guidance of a professional playwright. The Pulitzer Prize winning American realist novel The Grapes of Wrath will serve as the source text that will inspire a new performance piece developed by the students. Under the guidance of the Alliance Theatre's Mellon Playwright in Residence, best-selling author, Pearl Cleage, students will explore John Steinbeck's themes of home, family, environment, and income inequality and examine how these themes are manifested in modern times. Capitol Theatre's WICKED Announces Drawing for $25 Seats, 7/9-8/24

A day-of-performance drawing for a limited number of orchestra seats will be held for WICKED, which is returning to the Capitol Theatre with performances from July 9 - August 24. Two and one-half hours prior to each performance, people who present themselves at the Capitol Theatre box office will have their names placed in a drawing drum; thirty minutes later, names will be drawn for a limited number of orchestra seats at $25 each, cash only. This drawing is available only in-person at the box office, with a limit of two tickets per person. Drawing participants must have a valid photo ID when submitting their entry form and, if chosen, when purchasing tickets. (more...)
