Get into the Halloween spirit with a ghostly evening featuring a showing of one of the first horror movies! In advance of the Broadway musical coming to the Paramount Theatre in April 2015, Seattle Theatre Group and Trader Joe's Silent Movie Mondays will screen the original silent film adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera!

Starring MGM superstar Lon Chaney as the Phantom and Mary Philbin as Christine Daae, The Phantom of the Opera was an instant success upon its release in 1925. Acclaimed for Chaney's makeup and performance, the famous unmasking scene reportedly caused audience members to scream and faint. Since then, the film's resounding influence has inspired five remakes, a blockbuster musical, and frequent rankings by film critics as one of the greatest films of all time.

Just like it was at its premiere in New York City, this month's showing of the film will be accompanied by organist Jim Riggs on the Mighty Wurlitzer! Audience members are encouraged to get into the spirit of a Masquerade and wear fantastical, ostentatious, and ghastly masks that evening. Trader Joe's will be providing scarily scrumptious treats, and a photo booth will be on hand to capture the evening's mysterious festivities. Following the movie, there will be a CineClub discussion of the film.

Show time: Monday, October 27th at 7:00 p.m., doors at 6:00
