Tacoma Musical Playhouse is excited to announce the public phase of our capital campaign for a major theater renovation! With over $1M raised in private donations and grants thus far, TMP seeks help from the community to push us through to the $1.27M goal to complete this remodel which features, among other improvements, a larger stage area and orchestra pit!

Thanks to their generosity, TMP has already received grants from the Dimmer, Forest, Norcliffe, Sequoia, and Titus-Will Family Foundations, along with private donations from TMP patrons and South Puget Sound arts advocates, totaling over $1,000,000 toward the $1,270,000 goal necessary to complete this project. The public phase of this campaign begins today as TMP continues to work within the community to raise the remainder of these funds.

Founded in 1994, TMP is the largest community theater in the four-state northwest region and among the top twelve in the nation. TMP presents six high-quality, full-scale musical Theater Productions per season, each with live orchestra, Broadway-style sets and costumes, and award-winning choreography. Through new and innovative ideas, TMP introduces audiences to premieres and lesser-known works as well as to new variations of older standards. TMP is also home to the Tacoma Children's Musical Theater. These productions are fully-staged musical theater versions of classic and children's literature brought to life by TMP's adults actors for family audiences. In 2005, TMP was selected to represent the United States at the Mondial InterNational Theatre Festival in Monaco.

Built in 1949, the Narrows Theater on Tacoma's 6th Avenue was designed as a movie theater. It was never built with live orchestration in mind. TMP began leasing the facility in 1996 and purchased the west end complex in 2001. Many renovations to the building have already been made, including: a new lobby, concessions area and Box Office; a greenroom for the actors; and new, larger public restrooms. The auditorium remodel project will complete the goal of creating a state-of-the-art facility designed specifically for live musical theater, and will allow performing arts patrons from all over to enjoy high-quality, musical Theater Productions long into the future of the South Puget Sound region.
