Sound Theatre Company has announced a special partnership with the Teen Writers programs of Richard Hugo House forits upcoming "Making Waves" production of Disco Pigs.

The dark coming-of-age tale by the Tony Award-winning Enda Walsh explores in brutal terms the universal anxiety that all modern teenagers face in some form: the terror of growing up. Each performance of Disco Pigs will feature in advance of the play at least two of a group of ten Hugo House writers presenting their original work, to augment the play with their own teen perspectives of the world. Readers include performance poet Ramsey Jester, a Hugo House Youth Writer-In-Residence and 2012 graduate of Nathan Hale high school.

"This is a perfect fit for our two organizations," said Sound Theatre Company's Artistic Director, Teresa Thuman. "Our mission to produce theatrical work based on language and music blends elegantly with Hugo House's focus on developing resources for authors and readers. Showcasing talent is an important part of what we do, and we're proud to provide a forum for these extraordinary young writers and poets."

Disco Pigs by Enda Walsh opens on September 21 for a limited run at the Ballard Underground, 2200 NW Market Street. The cast features Fox Rain Matthews as Pig and Alyssa Kay as Runt, under the direction of Gianni Truzzi. Set and lighting design are by the Gypsy Award-recognized Richard Schaefer, and sound design is by the Gregory Award-nominated Lindsey Morck. Costume designs are by K.D. Schill and prop designs are by Jodi Sauerbier.

Richard Hugo House provides classes, events and resources for writers, readers and audiences. It cultivates teen writers through weekend workshops, midweek Write Time sessions, Scribes summertime creative writing camps, the Young Writers Mentorship Project, and Stage Fright open-mic nights. Through its programs, Hugo House supports the creation of new work, encourages artistic risk and cultivates a welcoming community.

Sound Theatre Company presents highly theatrical work inspired by language and music while showcasing professional and emerging talent in the Seattle area. Making Waves is an experimental performance program designed to share the emerging work of our company members with our growing audience.
