STG Concerts Present Kristin Chenowith, Dita Von Teese & More this Spring

Seattle Theatre Group (STG) announced the following concerts are going on sale this week. Highlights include Kristin Chenoweth on May 9 and Dita Von Teese May 24-5.

Zoë Keating is a one-woman orchestra. She uses a cello and a foot-controlled laptop to record layer upon layer of cello, creating intricate, haunting and compelling music. Zoë is known for both her use of technology - which she uses to sample her cello onstage - and for her DIY ethic. She has sold over 40,000 copies of her albums without a record label, management or physical distribution. Zoë is also a governor of the San Francisco chapter of the Recording Academy, sits on the board of CASH Music and was named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum. Zoë has spent much of 2011 touring across North America, young baby in tow, to support her latest album, Into the Trees, which has spent 49 weeks on the Billboard classical charts, reaching #7. Zoë has performed and recorded with a wide range of artists, including Imogen Heap, Amanda Palmer, Curt Smith of Tears for Fears, DJ Shadow, John Vanderslice, Rasputina, Pomplamoose and Paolo Nutini. She is a regular collaborator with the creators of WNYC's Radiolab and is also known for her work in film. Commissions include music for the San Francisco MOMA's audio tour and soundtracks for the films Ghost Bird, The Devil's Chair and Frozen Angels. Her cello playing can be heard on Mark Isham's scores The Conspirator, Warrior and The Secret Life of Bees.

Emmy and Tony Award winner and Oklahoma Hall of Fame inductee, Kristin Chenoweth works in stage, television and film. She received rave reviews while starring in the ABC series Pushing Daisies, where she received an Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. Pushing Daisies was nominated for a Golden Globe Award and Emmy Award for "Best Television Series - Musical or Comedy". She has appeared in Fox's comedy Glee, where she played a former student who comes back to help re-energize the Glee club. She also starred as Annabeth Schott on the hit drama The West Wing and guest judged on American Idol. Many remember her show-stealing, Tony-winning performance in You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown and her triumphant star turn when she originated the role of Glinda the Good Witch in Wicked, which earned her a leading actress Tony Award nomination. In the fall, Chenoweth will star in the new ABC show, "Good Christian Belles" as Darlene, alongside Leslie Bibb and Annie Potts. Directed by Alan Poul, "Good Christian Belles" centers on a recently divorced mother of two who, to get a fresh start, moves back to the affluent Dallas neighborhood where she grew up to find herself in the whirling midst of salacious gossip, Botox, and fraud. Kristin's stage credits include: Kern and Hammerstein's rarely seen 1932 musical Music in the Air, the second Encores! production of New York City Center's 2008-09 season. She starred in Stairway to Paradise, an original Encores! production celebrating the great Broadway revue. Commemorating the centennial anniversary of the first Ziegfeld Follies, Kristin concluded New York City Center's 2007 season with beloved Broadway numbers from the early 20th century. Ms. Chenoweth starred in the critically successful and highly lauded limited-engagement of The Apple Tree at Roundabout Theatre Company's Studio 54 and also performed in the Broadway comedy Epic Proportions and in the Kander and Ebb musical Steel Pier, for which she won a Theatre World award.

Mickey Hart is best known for his nearly three decades in rock and roll band the Grateful Dead. On October 11, 2011, Smithsonian Folkways Recordings will release the 'Mickey Hart Collection' to preserve and further the Grateful Dead percussionist's endeavor to cross borders and expand musical horizons. Smithsonian Folkways will make many of Mickey Hart's music projects available digitally (stream and download) for the first time while keeping physical versions in print as on-demand CDs. The Mickey Hart Collection begins with 25 albums drawn from 'The World,' a series Hart curated that incorporated his solo projects, other artists' productions, and re-releases of out-of-print titles. Six of the twenty-five albums form the "Endangered Music Project," a collaboration between Mickey Hart and the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress, which presents recordings from musical traditions at risk. Both 'The World' and 'The Endangered Music Project' were previously distributed by Rykodisc from 1988 to 2002. Currently, Hart is in the studio recording his new solo project due out in February 2012. "I've been involved in sampling the epic events of the universe from the Big Bang to now - everything that makes up our lives," says Hart, describing his upcoming album. "It's all about the vibrations of life. In this case, they began as light waves, and these light waves are still washing over us. The scientists at Lawrence Berkeley Labs and Meyer Sound made them into sound waves. I want to bring these light waves into the human range and use that as a musical catalyst and play with it." Mickey debuted his new songs to packed houses in the summer of 2011 with the Mickey Hart Band featuring, Tim Hockenberry, Crystal Monee Hall, Vir McCoy, Ian "Inx" Herman, Gawain Mathews, Greg Ellis, and Sikiru Adepoju. His tireless study of the world's music led Mickey to many great teachers and collaborators, including his partners in Planet Drum Zakir Hussain, Babatunde Olatunji, and Airto Moreira. Planet Drum's self-titled album not only hit #1 on the Billboard World Music Chart, remaining there for 26 weeks, it also received the Grammy for Best World Music Album in 1991, the first Grammy ever awarded in this category. Hart last released the Global Drum Project with Zakir Hussain, Sikiru Adepoju, and Giovanni Hidalgo in 2007, which took home the Grammy for Best Contemporary World Music Album.

Born Heather Sweet in West Branch, Michigan, Dita grew up fascinated by the Golden Age of Cinema, pin-up imagery, and vintage lingerie. This naturally blond, mid-western girl then transformed herself into one of the glamour girls she grew up adoring. Performing burlesque since 1992, she is the undisputed international queen of burlesque, and credited with bringing the art form back in to the spotlight with a new sense of glamour and sophistication. Taking audiences on a journey into fantasy and spectacle, Dita is renowned for her ornate sets and dazzling haute-couture performance costumes adorned with hundreds of thousands of Swarovski crystals. Dita determines every aspect of her burlesque shows from the set and costume, to the music and lighting. Best known for her cocktail glass show in which she performs a classic style striptease that culminates with her bathing in a glass, Dita recreated this iconic show for her role as the global ambassador for Cointreau. Her "Be Cointreauversial," show is a grander version of her famous cocktail glass show which she has performed in Tokyo, Sydney, New York, London, Paris, Sao Paulo and Los Angeles. She also just developed her 2nd Cointreau cocktail, the MargaDITA, inspired by the original Cointreau Margarita, and launched the Cointreau Prive pop-up bar in London.
