About 25,000 Posts:

25,000 Posts considers the journey of one man over a 13-year period at the dawn of the 21st century. Set in Seattle, its central character works a day job as a real estate sign poster while dreaming of bigger things. Not immune to historic changes in the nature of work, family and real estate, he ventures forth, sometimes obliviously, sometimes inventively, in stubborn pursuit of his birthright: the American dream.

Expected to be about 90 minutes in length, the play consists of 39 monologues. It's part memoir, part training manual, and part questionable advice from others. Structurally the play presents a puzzle for its audience to solve, or perhaps two puzzles. The smaller puzzle is piecing together our hero's narrative. The larger puzzle is sorting out what it means to live the American dream at the dawn of the 21st century. If you've struggled with a growing sense of disenfranchisement over the past decade, this play is for you.

It should be noted that while not strictly a comedy, 25,000 Posts is devised to be a humorous retrospective, an entertainment if you will. Appropriate for ages 14 and up.

25,000 Posts had its first public reading as a featured ARTS CRUSH event in October 2013. Two selections have been presented at Annex Theatre's Spin the Bottle, and a third will be performed May 2nd, 2014.

About the playwright/performer and Rhymes with Japan:

Jim Lapan is a 25-year veteran of the Seattle theatre scene. Primarily an actor-for-hire, he has worked with Seattle Shakes, Book-it, Intiman, Village, Azeotrope, Theater Schmeater, Seattle Public Theater, and a number of other outfits that are no longer in business. He recently appeared on Grimm.

As a playwright, his work has been performed at Theater Schmeater and 14/48.

He has been a real estate sign poster since 2001, and a dad since 1998. Rhymes With Japan is both a pronunciation guide and the name of his fledgling production company.

About the director:

Cathy Madden is on the faculty of the University of Washington Professional Actor Training Program, and delighted to be working with Jim again. He was in one of the first classes she taught there in 1986. They have also been collaborating on the development of a new work by local playwright Connie Amundson. Cathy directs and coaches for Lucia Neare Theatrical Wonders, and is an internationally recognized expert in integrating the Alexander Technique in Performance.
