BroadwayWorld has received word that Broadway's recent rock 'n' roll hit A NIGHT WITH JANIS JOPLIN will replace the musical in development SLEEPING BEAUTY WAKES as part of The 5th Avenue Theatre's 2015/16 season. The show will share the same run dates (March 25-April 17) with minor changes to the performance schedule.

"SLEEPING BEAUTY WAKES faced major scheduling challenges with the show's creative team which ultimately could not be resolved," said Executive Producer and Artistic Director David Armstrong. "After much deliberation, we made the difficult decision to remove the show from our 2015/16 season. But we're thrilled to bring A NIGHT WITH JANIS JOPLIN to our audiences and we think that the sensational performances and incredible insight into this legend's life will be an exciting fit."

Like a comet that burns far too brightly to last, Janis Joplin exploded onto the music scene in 1967 and, almost overnight, became the queen of rock & roll. The unmistakable voice, filled with raw emotion and tinged with Southern Comfort, made her a must-see headliner from Monterey to Woodstock. Now, Seattle is invited to share an evening with the woman and her influences in the new Broadway musical A NIGHT WITH JANIS JOPLIN.

Fueled by such unforgettable songs as "Me and Bobby McGee," "Piece of My Heart," "Mercedes Benz," "Cry Baby" and "Summertime," this sensational show is a musical journey celebrating Joplin and her biggest musical influences-icons like Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Odetta, Nina Simone and Bessie Smith, who inspired one of rock & roll's greatest legends.

A NIGHT WITH JANIS JOPLIN plays March 25-April 17 (press night March 31) at The 5th Avenue Theatre, and is currently only available through subscriptions. Subscriptions may be purchased by phone at (206) 625-1900 or at the Box Office at 1308 5th Avenue in Downtown Seattle. Patrons with subscriptions that include SLEEPING BEAUTY WAKES are being automatically exchanged into performances of A NIGHT WITH JANIS JOPLIN with refunds available for those who do not wish to attend. Single tickets will be available for purchase on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 beginning at 10 AM.
