Mirror Stage's 10th Feed Your Mind season continues with Principal Principle by Joe Zarrow on February 7 & 8, 2015 at the Ethnic Cultural Theatre in Seattle's University District. Directed by Suzanne M. Cohen, Feed Your Mind: Principal Principle features Elena Flory-Barnes (Shelley Woods), Brenda Joyner (Kay Josephs), Joanne Klein (Denise Corey), Shaunyce Omar (Ola Lawrence), and Meenakshi Rishi (Ms. Banerjee).

Armed with her dreams of changing the world and six weeks of training, Kay quits her corporate job to teach English in a Chicago public high school. She arrives to find that the copy machine, the system, and the spirits of her fellow teachers are all broken. Or are they? A dark comedy of academic intrigue, Principal Principle offers a peek at the politics behind the closed doors of the teachers' lounge.

Joe Zarrow is a playwright and actor. Stage Left Theatre presented his gentrification farce The Pigeons in the Downstage Left reading series before it was produced by Walkabout, and his short play Everythingaoke recently premiered in LiveWire's VisionFest. Zarrow is an Artistic Associate of both Theatre Seven of Chicago and Pavement Group, where he serves as Literary Director. He was a full-time English teacher for seven years, the last four of which were with Chicago Public Schools. Zarrow is a graduate of Brown University and NYU, and in 2014, attended the School at Steppenwolf.

Mirror Stage's innovative Feed Your Mind series of staged readings examines topical issues from different perspectives. The plays are presented simply: no costumes or sets-just the actors and the text. Following every performance, a moderated discussion with the audience and artists further explores the issues raised in more depth. Principal Principle examines questions of racism in public education, standardized testing, educational philosophy, and the challenges faced by teachers today.

The Ethnic Cultural Theatre is located at 3940 Brooklyn Ave NE in Seattle. Performances will be Saturday at 8:00pm and Sunday at 2:00pm. Admission is $10; $5 for students and seniors. Every performance has 10 Pay-What-You-Can rush tickets ($1 minimum) for purchase at the door. Free parking is available in University of Washington's lot W12, located at just south of the Ethnic Cultural Theater on Brooklyn Ave NE. For more information, visit www.mirrorstage.org/principal.
