Area families will delight with the wide variety of performance offerings Studio East has available this season. Through their extensive after school performing arts training programs there will be six student-performed productions appropriate for a range of school-aged children and their families. In addition, Studio East's adult-acted professional StoryBook Theater touring productions introduce audience members as young as three to the joys of live theatre. The 16th Season of StoryBook Theater includes:

Chicken Little Oct. 26 - Nov. 24, 2013. Tickets on sale now. Recommended age 3+
Shows in Renton, Kirkland, Everett and Seattle
The sky is falling and Chicken Little must go to the palace to tell the King. Along the way, this would-be hero meets a variety of gullible, but lovable, buffoons who join him on his royal mission. Will Chicken Little be rewarded for his news or will he become Chicken a la King?

Goldilocks & the 3 Bears Jan.25 - Mar.16, 2014. Tickets on sale now. Recommended age 3+

Golden curls and mood swings do not necessarily mix with an over-pampered, but adorable, baby bear. Can a famished little girl put her spoiled behavior on the back shelf and learn how to be a friend to a lonely baby bear who hungers for a playfellow? Through listening and taking turns, our two misfits discover the power of having fun and being a friend.

Snow White Apr. 19 - May 18, 2014. Tickets on sale now. Recommended age 3+

The Queen is decidedly unhappy. With Snow White in the picture, the Queen is no longer the "most beautiful in all the land." Whatever shall she do? Hilarity ensues when the banished Snow White meets the Dorf Family -- 7 brothers (played by 3 silly actors). Can the Dorf brothers keep Snow White safe and out of the Queen's way?

The Hobbit - Oct. 18- Nov. 3, 2013 Recommended Ages 5+
Bilbo Baggins, the reluctant Hobbit hero, along with a band of 13 mighty dwarves, journey together to slay the awful dragon Smaug. Along the way they must escape the clutches of trolls, outwit Golum and his ring of invisibility, fight spiders and elves, and finally confront and conquer the all-powerful Smaug.

'Twas the Night... - Nov.22 - Dec. 15, 2013 Recommended Ages 4+
Spend a hilarious, tuneful Christmas Eve with the Big Family and assorted visitors as they await the coming of Santa. Now in its 13th year, this Studio East tradition, based on the beloved poem, always has a surprise in store, with new characters, songs and scenes each year. 'Twas the Night involves a rotating cast of more than 40 talented young performers and adults and is recommended for the whole family.

13 - Jan. 31 - Feb. 9, 2014. Recommended ages 11+
When his parents get divorced and he's forced to move from New York to a small town in Indiana, Evan Goldman just wants to make friends and survive the school year -easier said than done. 13 is a hilarious, high-energy musical for all ages about discovering that cool is where you find it, and sometimes where you least expect it.

The Secret Garden - March 21-30, 2014 Recommended Ages 5+
In the early years of the 20th century, 11 year-old Mary Lennox, an English girl born and raised in the British Raj, is orphaned by a cholera outbreak. Mary suddenly faces a very different life when she is sent away from her home in India to live in Yorkshire,England with a reclusive uncle. With the help of a young gardener on her uncle's estate, Mary brings new life to a neglected garden and new love to the lives of those around her.

Twelfth Night - April 4-6, 2014. Recommended Ages 9+
The bard's finest comedy is a tribute to the restorative power of love. Viola, the shipwrecked heroine, lands on the shore of Illyriaand, disguised as a page, Cesario, searches for her lost brother. Countess Olivia mourns the loss of her own brother. When the lovely Countess meets the handsome young page, desire banishes grief in this intoxicating comedy.

Peter Pan - May 30 - June 22, 2014. Recommended Ages 5+
Peter Pan is the magical story about a boy who doesn't want to grow up and so spends his life in Neverland battling the pirates and Indians. When he brings the Darling children to Neverland with him, he is finally able to defeat his foe, Captain Hook, and befriend the Indian chief. Children of all ages will be delighted by this classic story of adventure.

Studio East Training for the Performing Arts was founded in 1992 to provide theater arts education for young people on the Eastside. It was founded on the belief that through the performing arts children can build confidence, and acquire leadership and teamwork skills while learning discipline, dedication and responsibility. Starting with one theater program for teens in 1992, Studio East has become one of the largest children's theater training programs in the Seattle area. Today, Studio East serves over 70,000 people annually with a comprehensive program of drama classes, theater arts camps, Mainstage productions and live performances for children from ages 3 through 19. 2012 marked Studio East's 20th anniversary season.

Studio East also produces StoryBook Theater, an adult professional touring troupe that introduces young children to live theater at venues throughout the Puget Sound area. Studio East creates opportunities for young people to discover and explore the performing arts.

Studio East recently received Kirkland's CACHET Award, presented by Kirkland Mayor Joan McBride and the Kirkland Cultural Arts Commission. Studio East, one of two winners, received the award for its dedication to arts education in Kirkland's community. CACHET stands for Collaboration of Arts, Culture, Heritage, Education and Theatre.
