"I can honestly say this is one of the best productions (student or otherwise) that I've seen this season." ~Seattle PI theater blog (Sweeney Todd, 2009).

Seattle, WA: ArtsWest announces sign-ups for its 2010 Summer Musical Theater Apprenticeship program. Auditions are December 28 & 29.

Aimed at advanced actors, singers and dancers planning on or already pursuing theater in college, the ArtsWest Apprenticeship Program is an intensive summer program where students ages 16-21 learn and improve their theater skills, develop teaching skills, and rehearse and perform a full-length Broadway musical. 6 male and 9 female students will be accepted into the program and perform the Tony nominated SIDE SHOW.

In addition to rehearsing and taking advanced classes, students in the Apprenticeship program have the opportunity to work on one of the other two ArtsWest Summer Theater education programs. Students will deepen their understanding of the theater process and solidify their knowledge by passing it on to younger students. A variety of teaching and technical positions are available. All positions are paid.

New for 2010, Apprenticeship students also have the option to apply for a Directing Intensive under the guidance of a local professional director. ArtsWest's Theater Conservatory Program will present a Program of World Premiere One Acts written by local students and fully directed by select members of the Apprenticeship Program. Three directing positions are available. Interested students will be given information on how to apply after being cast in Side Show. Directing positions are paid.

SIDE SHOW by Bill Russell (book and lyrics) and Henry Krieger (music) is a beloved cult musical inspired by the true story of conjoined twins Daisy and Violet Hilton. The musical follows the beautiful and talented sisters (who just happen to be joined at the hip) from England to post-Depression America, around the vaudeville circuit and finally to Hollywood in their search for independence, happiness and love. Nominated for 4 Tony Awards, Side Show's unforgettable score features music by the composer for Dreamgirls, including the hits "I Will Never Leave You" and "Who Will Love Me As I Am?".

"A marvel...daring, enthralling, and astonishingly effective" - New York Times.
