New Big Band to Premiere 7/4 on the Parkway

The new Philly POPS BIG Band will perform its first two shows on July 4 during the Wawa Welcome America Festival. At 10 a.m., the ensemble will play at the City of Philadelphia's July 4 Celebration of Freedom ceremony and parade on Independence Mall. At 7 p.m., the BIG Band will open the city's Wawa Welcome America July 4th Concert and fireworks show on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. NBC10 and Telemundo62 will televise both performances.
Musica Viva NY Announces 40th Anniversary Season

Musica Viva NY-a chamber choir under the artistic direction of Dr. Alejandro Hernandez-Valdez-celebrates its 40th anniversary throughout the 2017-18 season, continuing its commitment to performing beloved as well as rarely heard works from various periods of musical history and from diverse cultures worldwide together with the Aeolus Quartet, quartet in residence. Highlights of the season include Orff's Carmina Burana, a concert featuring pianist and composer Seymour Bernstein, an appearance by Musica Viva NY's founder Walter Klauss, a performance commemorating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. featuring Alice Parker; and the world premiere of a work by Elena Ruehr, commissioned by Musica Viva NY. All performances take place at All Souls Church (80th Street and Lexington Avenue).
Carnegie Hall Invites Thousands of NYC-Area Children for Link Up Concert this Thursday

Now in its 32nd season, Link Up is the longest-running school program of Carnegie Hall's Weill Music Institute (WMI). Designed for students in grades 3-5, the program facilitates deeper connections between The Concert hall and the classroom through an instrument-focused curriculum that culminates in an annual participatory concert. This month marks the inaugural concerts of The Orchestra Swings-the first new Link Up curriculum since 2012-designed to introduce the idea of "swing" through a conversation between the symphony orchestra and a jazz septet.

Anonymous Man is Michael Gordon's first concert-length solo choral work. It was commissioned by The Crossing and written for the choir's 24 voices. Gordon merges subtle rhythmic invention with incredible power in his music, embodying, in the words of The New Yorker's Alex Ross, 'the fury of punk rock, the nervous brilliance of free jazz and the intransigence of classical modernism.'
