    Second Thought Theatre Opens Area Premiere of STRAIGHT WHITE MEN

    Second Thought Theatre continues its 2017 season of change with the area premiere of Straight White Men by Young Jean Lee. Local director/actor Christie Vela returns to direct for the company after making her acting debut for Second Thought last summer in A Kid Like Jake. Straight White Men begins with previews on Wednesday, April 12 and runs through Saturday, May 6. All performances of Straight White Men will take place at Bryant Hall on the Kalita Humphreys Campus, 3636 Turtle Creek Blvd. Tickets to Straight White Men can be purchased online at 2TT.co.

    This Saturday, March 25th, the baseball musical 'National Pastime' by Al Tapper and Tony Sportiello opens in Guadalajara, Mexico.  THE MUSICAL, last produced by Robyn Goodman and directed by Hunter Foster at Bucks County Playhouse in 2015, tells the tale of a radio station during the Depression so desperate for ratings that they created a fictional baseball team which can't lose.  Because the games are held in Europe no one can see them.  The gimmick is so successful that the radio station and the town of Baker City Iowa is saved.  At least until Life Magazine shows up.
    Broadway Smash-Hit MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET to Open at Georgia Ensemble Theatre

    Georgia Ensemble Theatre (GET), North Fulton's only professional theatre company, will finish up its 24thseason with Million Dollar Quartet, the smash-hit Tony Award-winning musical inspired by the famed recording session that brought together rock 'n' roll icons Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins for the first and only time. Based on a true event, the production runs April 6th through 23rd, 2017 at the theatre's home in the Roswell Cultural Arts Center. Chris Damiano, as both Director and Music Director is at the helm of this fast-paced Broadway musical that serves up all the hits we know and love. Million Dollar Quartet is graciously sponsored by The Malon D. Mimms Company and Synovus/The Bank of North Georgia and is a co-production with The Atlanta Lyric Theatre.

    California Symphony Presents the World Premiere of TANGLE EYE, 5/7

     Music Director Donato Cabrera leads the California Symphony in the world premiere of the newly-commissioned cello concerto, Tangle Eye, by its current Young American Composer-in-Residence, Dan Visconti, with soloist Inbal Segev on Sunday, May 7 at 4 pm at the Lesher Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek. The Israeli-American cellist, now based in New York, is a champion of contemporary music, and performs as a soloist with a Bay Area orchestra for the first time in the Orchestra's May 7 season finale. This is Visconti's final work as a Young American Composer-in-Residence with the Orchestra; his residency ends this year. The California Symphony also performs Bruckner's Symphony No. 6 for the first time in its 30-year history, and the program opens with Beethoven's Coriolan Overture.

    To start, this article will probably not do this incredible production justice. The Engeman's latest, Jekyll & Hyde, THE MUSICAL is absolutely electrifying and the Broadway caliber cast is positively glorious. This is, without a doubt, a must see for the season. And by the reaction of the sold out audience on opening night, you may want to get your tickets quickly as this runs through April 30th.

    Music Director Alan Gilbert begins his final weeks by leading the New York Philharmonic in Schoenberg's A Survivor from Warsaw and Beethoven's Symphony No. 9. The program juxtaposes the tragedy and optimism of human experience through Schoenberg's depiction of the horror of the Holocaust and the message of hope, brotherhood, and joy in Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. Schoenberg's A Survivor from Warsaw will feature Gabriel Ebert as narrator (in his Philharmonic debut) and the men of the Westminster Symphonic Choir, directed by Joe Miller. Beethoven's Ninth Symphony will feature soprano Camilla Tilling, mezzo-soprano Daniela Mack (debut), tenor Joseph Kaiser (debut), bass-baritone Eric Owens, and the Westminster Symphonic Choir, directed by Joe Miller. The performances will take place Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at 7:30 p.m.; Thursday, May 4 at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, May 5 at 8:00 p.m.; Saturday, May 6 at 8:00 p.m.; and Tuesday, May 9 at 7:30 p.m. The program will be presented without intermission.
