Underscore Theatre Company Presents MY NAME IS ANNIE KING

Underscore Theatre Company is pleased to present the world premiere musical thriller MY NAME IS ANNIE KING, the story of a young man who stumbles into the world of a religious cult in backcountry Missouri, becoming intoxicated by its leader and his ideologies. With a bluegrass/folk infused score by Aaron Albert and Katy Rea and book by Krista Pioppa, the new musical is directed by Alex Higgin-Houser. In the tradition of Underscore's 2016 hit musical Haymarket: The Anarchist's Songbook, some Members of The cast will play their own instruments. MY NAME IS ANNIE KING will play April 21 - May 28, 2016 at Underscore's new resident home The Pride Arts Center (The Broadway), 4139 N. Broadway in Chicago. Tickets are currently available at underscoretheatre.org.

Philadelphia Youth Orchestra Students To Participate in 2017 NYO-USA at Carnegie Hall

Each summer, the country's most gifted young musicians are chosen by Carnegie Hall's Weill Music Institute to form the National Youth Orchestra of the United States (NYO-USA) of America. This year, seven Philadelphia Youth Orchestra (PYO) students have been selected to participate in the prestigious 2017 NYO-USA. The PYO students who have been chosen from PA are: Fiyi Adebekun, violin, of Lansdale, Allyson Cohen, violin, of Narberth, Isabella Egawa, violin, of Bala Cynwyd, Johnny May, violin, of Penn Valley and Joy Zhao, cello, of Chalfont. The student from DE is Conor McAvinue, violin, of Wilmington, and the student from NJ is Daniel Kim, clarinet, of Skillman.

Syracuse University Department of Drama presents MAJOR BARBARA

Written in 1906, this deliciously provocative comedy is the next offering in the Syracuse University Department of Drama season. The Academy Awards remind actress/writer Jeanne Marie Spicuzza about what could be. After all, her screenplay 'Breath of God' was a semi-finalist in the Academy sponsored Nicholl Fellowship, a prestigious competition that found sourced screenplays for films such as 'Arlington Road' and Aqueelah and the Bea.' Having just finished shooting her second feature length film, 'Night Rain,' in January, which aims for release later in 2017, Spicuzza is set to make 'Breath of God' as a European co-production, eyeing a start date in 2018.

Before Senator Elizabeth Warren, another Elizabeth spoke out, despite being warned and threatened with commitment to an insane asylum. Bridge Repertory Theater, in a co-production with Playhouse Creatures, presents Emily Mann's MRS. PACKARD, a drama inspired by true events, chronicling one woman's fight for the right to freely express her opinion, even if it differed from that of her husband. Under the direction of Emily Ranii, a cast of eighteen actors, lead by Olivia D'Ambrosio, Joseph Rodriguez, and Steven Barkhimer, stages a vivid and compelling interpretation of Mann's play.
SXSW 2017 COVERAGE: AVETT BROTHERS and Documentary MAY IT LAST

SXSW saw a lot of opportunities for new films and documentaries to be premiered. One in particular was a documentary called MAY IT LAST: A PORTRAIT OF THE AVETT BROTHERS that explored the Avett Brothers' journey into making their latest album that was recently released called “True Sadness.” In creating this documentary, directors Judd Apatow and Michael Bonfiglio wanted to share all aspects of the lives' of the Avett Brothers and their band.
