BWW Interview: Marvelous Shanty Boy Doug Mancheski Returns to GUYS ON ICE at Milwaukee's Stackner
Oct 16, 2015
With only a few performances remaining of Northern Sky Theater's (NST) 2015 season, their fall selection Lumberjacks in Love draws to a close. Douglas Mancheski retires the Dirty Bob shanty lumberjack he has played on and off since meeting Fred Alley in 1997. An event when Alley first discovered the actor and asked Mancheski to collaborate on the 'Little Dress' song that was immediately added to the popular NST musical. The solo song and dance continually brings smiles to audiences when Mancheski twirls in a ruffled white skirt on stage. Although Mancheski's burly lumberjack days are numbered this year, until NST's next production, he will still be a shanty boy through the holidays in Milwaukee.

Dec 12, 2014
Something wonderful happens in a city when a production captures characters and a niche of suburban culture close to home. In Tandem Theatre at the Tenth Street Theatre developed this crazy charm in the last decade through multiple performances--almost 300 by the end of this current run--of their alternative holiday musical A Cudahy Caroler Christmas. Cudahy, Milwaukee and the surrounding suburbs embraced the parodies with consumptive delight.
BWW Reviews: Be Red Nosed at First Stage's Enchanting RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER: THE MUSICAL
Dec 10, 2014
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer makes history again. First Stage celebrates the television special's 50th anniversary this holiday season because five decades ago Rudolph 'with your nose so bright' saved Christmas in this magical tale where these Christmastown misfits power Santa's sleigh during a blinding snowstorm. The animated special also rewrote television history by being one of the first seasonal shows broadcast only once a year combined with the highest ratings. First Stage reprises that success by bringing the beloved handcrafted characters, costumes and scenery to life on stage in their original adaptation from the 2012 production: Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Musical.'

BWW Reviews: AFT Reprises a Winning PACKER FANS FROM OUTER SPACE
Jul 14, 2014
After attending American Folklore Theater's Packer Fans From Outer Space twice in one week, the smiles and laughter can still be remembered, a Door County memory to revisit regularly, even when the company's name changes next year to Northern Sky Theater. Lee Becker, Frederick Heide and James Kaplan collaborated as composers, lyricists, and writers of professional theater that brings to the Peninsula Park Stage this cadre of unforgettable characters in an unimaginable story. A story set in 1953 where one Juddville apple farmer, Harvey Keister, saves the intergalactic Packers from extinction by the intergalactic Bears, and in the battle, saves the earthly Green Bay Packers from their demise as Wisconsin's football team.
