Study of Women in Film Shows a Significant Increase in Female Protagonists

According to the Hollywood Reporter, 2016 reported a record number of female protagonists in film. 29% of all leading roles in the top 100 domestic grossing films were female, which is an increase of 7% since 2015. Male characters, major and minor, are still dominant on screen.

ODC Theater Announces 2017 Season

ODC, the most active center for contemporary dance on the West Coast, has announced the program for its 2017 Theater Season. Highlights include world premieres by David Gordon, FACT/SF, Monique Jenkinson, tinypistol, Laura Elaine Ellis and Smith/Wymore Disappearing Acts, and West Coast premieres by Kate Weare Company and The Foundry. Mercer County Artists Award Winners Announced

The arts community was out in force on Feb. 22 for the Opening Reception and Awards Ceremony for "Mercer County Artists 2017," now on display at the Gallery at Mercer County Community College (MCCC) through March 23. The Gallery at Mercer is located on the second floor of the Communications Building on the college's West Windsor Campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road.  (The gallery is closed during Spring Break, March 13 to 19.)

Geffen Playhouse and online theater streaming service BroadwayHD today announced a partnership to present select live and captured-live productions from the Los Angeles theater to BroadwayHD subscribers. The Geffen's current production of Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning Long Day's Journey Into Night, starring Jane Kaczmarek and Alfred Molina, will be the first play presented under the partnership. It marks BroadwayHD's first live stream from a U.S. theater outside of New York City.

 Irondale Ensemble, one of the country's longest-standing research theater companies, is seeking applications to present short pieces of theater, music, dance, or spoken word, with the hope  of fostering a serious dialogue around the policies of President Donald Trump. For the entire month of March, Irondale is suspending regularly scheduled performances to present Not Normal: Art in the Time of Trump, a curated series to provide the community a forum to publically respond to the newly implemented intimidation tactics of the administration, and have their voices heard in a safe and supportive space. Scheduled over 4 weekends, March 3, 4, 10, 11, 17, 18 and 24, this pop-up performance series will be free to the public, performed by the public.
