Blue Star Award Winners Announced at Starlight Theatre

For the 15th consecutive year, Starlight Theatre has publicly applauded the outstanding achievements and talents of local high school musical theatre students. Last night's 2017 Blue Star Awards Ceremony gave hundreds of area teens an opportunity to perform musical numbers on Starlight's Cohen Community Stage while their teachers, peers, parents and others cheered them from the seats. Many of the students took home Blue Star Awards in recognition of their high school theatrical accomplishments.

This summer, countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo, a "bona-fide star" (New Yorker) of the Metropolitan Opera, Berlin Philharmonic, Lyric Opera of Chicago, San Francisco Opera, English National Opera, Canadian Opera Company, LA Opera, and Glyndebourne, returns as one of twelve curators to Brooklyn's artist-led National Sawdust (NS), where he will present and perform in a radical reimagining of Handel's dramatic cantata Aci, Galatea e Polifemo, a co-production of National Sawdust and San Francisco's Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra & Chorale (led by conductor Nicholas McGegan).

Third Street Music School Settlement Awards the New York Community Trust Harris Scholarship

Third Street Music School Settlement will be presenting three students graduating this June as recipients of the New York Community Trust Harris Scholarship.  This year's scholars, Emma Peleg, 17, Hale Sheffield, 17, and Jennifer Loo, 17, will each receive $25,000 over four years towards their college expenses.  Entering college in fall 2017, the scholars have been accepted to schools such as Yale University, Princeton University, Duke University, SUNY Stony Brook, Binghamton University, The New School, New York University, CUNY Hunter, CUNY Baruch, Oberlin College, and Northeastern University.
U2's The Edge Will Be Honored with Les Paul Spirit Award at Bonnaroo

The Les Paul Foundation, whose mission is to honor and share the life, spirit and legacy of Les Paul through the generations has announced GRAMMY Award winning artist, U2's The Edge to be honored with the second annual Les Paul Spirit Award at this year's Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival.  The award will be presented to The Edge on Friday, June 9th, 2017, the same day Les Paul would have turned 102 years old. In 2016, the Les Paul Spirit Award was presented to Grateful Dead founding member Bob Weir.
