STAGE TUBE: On This Day for 7/10/16- XANADU

Today in 2007, Xanadu opened at the Helen Hayes Theatre, where it ran for 512 performances. Xanadu is a musical comedy with a book by Douglas Carter Beane and music and lyrics by Jeff Lynne and John Farrar, based on the 1980 cult classic film of the same name. The story of the musical focuses on a Greek muse, Clio, who descends from Mt. Olympus to Venice Beach, California, in 1980 on a quest to inspire a struggling artist, Sonny, to achieve the greatest creation of his life - a roller disco. It earned an Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Musical and a Drama Desk Award for Best Book. It was also nominated for Tony Awards for Best Musical and Best Book.

MasterVoices kicks off the 2015-2016 season with The Pirates of Penzance; or, The Slave of Dutyon October 15-16, 2015 at 8pm at New York City Center, 131 W. 55th Street, New York City. Following the success of our 2012 Mikado at Carnegie Hall, MasterVoices' semi-staged presentation of The Pirates of Penzance will feature a cast of stars from the Broadway and opera worlds, along with Orchestra of St. Luke's performing Arthur Sullivan's original orchestrations under the direction of Artistic Director Ted Sperling. Last Sunday, Play Club celebrated its second anniversary with a reading of TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, Christopher Sergel's stage adaptation of Harper Lee's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. So when he proposes to join forces with Sonia it is clear from the start that these two are going to make a comedically disastrous pairing. A score by Marvin Hamlisch and Carole Bayer Sager and jokes by Neil Simon, THEY'RE PLAYING OUR SONG is a passe musical about the real-life relationship of Hamlisch and Sager. It is also The Winter Park Playhouse's third show of the season, conveniently starring the Company's Executive and Artistic Directors.

SISTER ACT Comes to Houston's Hobby Center, 5/28-6/2; Tickets on Sale 1/27

Direct from Broadway, SISTER ACT, the hilarious, five-time Tony-nominated musical smash, is coming to Houston. SISTER ACT opens at the Hobby Center on May 28 and runs through June 2. Tickets go on sale to the public Today, January 27.
