New Adaptation of GREAT EXPECTATIONS Heads to Everyman Theatre's Stage
Jan 16, 2017
Everyman Theatre brings Charles Dickens' classic novel to the stage in a dynamic adaptation by Gale Childs Daly. Hailed as "tight and suspenseful" by the Chicago Tribune, Daly's adaptation of Great Expectations masterfully condenses Dickens 500-page novel into a high-spirited play where only six actors portray more than 35 characters. The show is currently in rehearsal and runs from February 1 through March 5, 2017.
BWW Review: DEAD MAN'S CELL PHONE at En Route Productions
Jan 16, 2017
So DEAD MAN'S CELL PHONE. Let me begin by heaping praise on female playwright Sarah Ruhl for bringing us a quirky and lovable female lead, and a story dominated by female characters. Second, thank goodness for En Route productions and their two female artistic directors, one of whom also directed the show, the other whom also designed the set. Third, credit is due to this theatre company for incorporating their work into the visual arts landscape to give us a double dose of worthy culture in a city where having a sandwich at Micklethwaite Meats is possibly as close as some hipsters will get to art or theatre.

BWW Review: Pinky Swear's LIZZIE Rocks the Revenge Musical
Jan 16, 2017
Just in time for those winter, presidential inaugural blues, Pinky Swear Productions comes along offering the ultimate rock-scream therapy session with Lizzie, a musical dedicated to America's most famous real-life axe-murderer. Not for the faint-of heart, this is a musical that by rights should be featured in this Saturday's women's march, a reminder that women are perfectly capable of getting in their digs (or whacks, as the case may be) when pushed to the edge.

BWW Review: The Coup Stumbles at WNO's THE DICTATOR'S WIFE
Jan 16, 2017
The Dictator's Wife stumbles like a badly engineered coup with the fault lying solely with the opera's librettist Mohammed Hanif.
BWW Review: THIS IS NOT ABOUT MY DEAD DOG at Playwrights Local
Jan 16, 2017
A present trend in entertainment is story telling before an audience. 'The Moth: True Stories Told Live,' is one of Public Radio's highest rated offerings. The publicity for the show states, 'The Moth is deeply rooted in the desire [of humans] to connect with each other through shared experiences in stories.' ccording to its blog site, though there are many opportunities nation-wide to experience first-hand 'The Moth' readings, none are being staged in the Cleveland area.
BWW Review: THE PHANTOM TOOL BOOTH at Ensemble Theatre
Jan 16, 2017
Much like Lewis Carroll's ALICE'S ADVENTURES IN WONDERLAND and L. Frank Baum's THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF OZ, Norton Juster's THE PHANTOM TOLL BOOTH is a fantasy adventure. All three are perceived as tales for children, but, in reality, though they are intended to teach youngsters, the messages are often so complex that they go over the heads of their intended audience.
