For the last 2 years the award winning duo Hunt & Darton have run the Fringe's favourite art café. In 2014 they return with their Not Great British Bake Off, a 3-day baking bonanza at Forest Fringe that the public are invited to join as bakers, judges or onlookers. Competitors go head-to-head until one is crowned champion and wins first prize of a holiday for two at Pontins Camber Sands.

Of course nothing will be quite what it seems. As the title says, it's NOT great. Hunt & Darton, as hosts and adjudicators, have created a ridiculous set of rules and criteria to judge the cake creations. Is your cake tropical or absurd enough? Just how is its movement literacy? What is the concept behind your cream topping?

Taking place on 7, 8, 9 August Hunt & Darton's Not Great British Bake Off is an interactive event where all are welcome. There will be joy, celebration, sweat and tears as all work hard to bake and judge. Negotiating topics from 'frosting that makes Darton happy' to 'a clear display of something utopic that makes Hunt happy' there is everything to win and everything to loose. You can have your cake but the judges may not even eat it.

Day one will see a frenzy of baking as a bank of ovens are set up in the Forest Fringe Drill Hall, all under the ever watchful eyes of Hunt & Darton, with judging taking place on days two and three. The excitement is planned to run from noon to 6pm each day, but, like the tennis, it doesn't finish until there's a winner.

Not Great British Bake Off is all about looking at other ways to making a 'good' cake rather than it just being a good cake. You've seen the TV programme - you know about bouncy sponge, you know about the perfect mix of vanilla in your cream and the danger of the soggy bottom, but we know you might not always care and that's why we are here. Can a cake illustrate something more profound? It is OK if it's just a cake but a recreation of a Roman baths with Jelly Babies as oversized people and Polo mints as rubber rings, or an edible realisation of The Meadows on a wet weekend is where Hunt & Darton's hearts truly lie.

Surprise guest judges are being lined up but you'll have to come to find out who, we're not telling. And let's not forget the fabulous prize of a break for two in the unrivalled glamour of Pontins Camber Sands.

Hunt & Darton is the Live Art collaboration between artists Jenny Hunt and Holly Darton. The artists combine elements of spoken word, movement and improvisation in their experiments playing with the aesthetics of entertainment and performance. Their best-known creation, Hunt & Darton Cafe is on a 2-year tour of the UK following its success at the 2012 and 2013 Fringe's and visits Rotterdam in September. They are also developing Hunt & Darton's Food Fight, a new commission for Artsdepot.
