Go Dance Celebrates Ten Years, Jan. 31 - Feb. 4

Go Dance this year celebrates its 10th anniversary with another jam packed programme of community dance.

Taking place at Theatre Royal from Tuesday 31 January until Saturday 4 February, Go Dance features a calibre of talent and dynamic routines from Scotland's leading dance colleges, dance schools and community groups.

Hosted by Scottish actor Alan McHugh, Go Dance's programme boasts bite-sized pieces works of differing dance styles over five nights. Groups on the billing include Urbaniks Street Skool , Maryhill Integration Dance Project, Leanne Dobie Dance and Scottish Ballet Youth Collective 3 and Gillian Whyte's Dans-scene Company.

And to mark the initiative's incredible 10 year milestone, the programme will also include a new piece in partnership with the internationally renowned award-winning Dance Company Rambert. The piece will be performed by Overdrive Dance Company, a dynamic group of talented male dancers already making their mark in the dance-scene.

Stephen Quildan of Rambert, said: "The piece I decided to create for Overdrive, draws on Christopher Bruce's Ghost Dances and also on themes of loss, friendship, community and the natural world. Through the use of folk, contemporary, social and concert dance the young dancers demonstrate the role of community in overcoming the challenges of individuals. For me support is the foundation and purpose of any community and this is what I hope comes across in the piece."

Go Dance was launched in 2008 by Theatre Royal's Creative Learning Team with the aim of providing a platform for both established groups and up-and-coming talent to showcase their work.

Since its establishment, Go Dance has become a staple event with both the regional dance community and Theatre Royal.

For a decade Go Dance has welcomed people of all ages to share their passion for dance and celebrate their creativity, either as a performer or audience member.

"This year, Go Dance features regulars as well as newcomers, and we are thrilled to be working in partnership with Rambert on an exciting new piece for the festival. The programme promises to be as bold and creative as ever. I'm also delighted that Scottish actor Alan McHugh will be hosting the event which adds another special touch."
