Tell us a bit about Third Wheel

Polly and Eve have a surprisingly hilarious time travelling the UK with their best friend's ashes in a Wizard of Oz lunchbox.

At Dylan's funeral, they are handed the box along with posthumous instructions to take him on the UK road trip he never got to go on.

The two women haven't spoken after a friendship destroying argument several years ago and on top of some devastating grief, this is not ideal.

Their journey is narrated by an onstage band called 'Party in the Sky', led by Dylan, who soundtrack the trip and fill in some blanks from the past.

As they deal with loss, life and a number of questionable regional representatives, the reason for their original separation looms large again; there's a thin line between love and hate, but is it too late to rectify their mistakes?

Why bring it to Edinburgh?

Edinburgh is the home of new theatre and new voices and we are bringing a lot of those things. The show is talking about important themes; grief, the fear of death, the general nightmare of being in your early-20s without a clear direction and the other universal nightmare of what to do with being messily in love. There's a lot for audiences to relate to and it's also really funny and musical and has some physical theatre sequences. We hope it's different and entertaining and fresh.

What sets it apart from other shows at the Fringe?

We think it's doing quite a rare thing in showing an LGBT love story where the fact that it is about two women isn't the obstacle. It isn't what's sad or funny about the play and is kind of incidental which we hope will be refreshing to see.

People aren't all about their sexualities and whilst it's brilliant and important to see issues within that explored it's also cool to see LGBT people dealing with other big themes that loom as large or much larger in their lives.

It's also very ambitious. It's new writing, it has 8 original songs, lots of multiroling, physical theatre and multi-media projections- as well as being set all over the UK. So that can't be a combination that features in every show?

Who would you recommend comes to see you?

Other than anyone who doesn't like a bit of swearing, we think the show will appeal to most audiences. It has such broad themes and has such a lot in it there should be something for everyone.

Are there any other shows you're hoping to catch at the festival?

So many! We're so excited to be there for the whole month again so we can catch them all! Amongst a lot of others, we're looking forward to Rhum and Clay being back with 'Testosterone', we loved '64 Squares' a few years ago. Also, 'Every Brilliant Thing', 'Zoe Coombs-Marr: Wild Boor' and we want to go back to 'Hot Brown Honey' because we were obsessed last year.
