Tell us a bit about Big Fat Gay...
The show is about me and the stupid stuff that I've done or that happens to me. It's quite rude and I would never perform it in front of my parents. I'm very honest. I follow the idea that if you share you're most shameful secrets and can find a way to laugh about them, then they won't be shameful anymore.
Why bring it to Edinburgh?
It's my second time coming to Edinburgh but I'm still learning so much about stand up. I think having a show at Edinburgh is the best way to learn about how to perform comedy. When you're trying stuff out in London you get 5 or 10 minutes to try material but Edinburgh is an opportunity to see if you can last an hour and keep people interested. I think I did that last year! But I think Edinburgh is kind of where you cut your teeth as a comic. It's not the place to be discovered from my experience, it happens but rarely. It is an amazing place to push yourself and see your peers / direct competition. Maybe steal some material too? (I jest, this is a big faux pas on the comedy scene)
What sets it apart from other shows at the Fringe?
I think my show is the only time I've seen a person like me talking honestly about stuff that bothers me. Obviously the arts are wonderfully inclusive but I've never seen someone like me be funny and honest. You see a lot of gay comedy but usually by someone sexy or someone whose making lots of innuendo. I'm not smart enough for double entendre so I'm just really graphic.
Who would you recommend comes to see you?
This is tough because I want to say everyone, especially as Edinburgh attracts a very liberal crowd and I need as many bums on seats as possible. I think gay men will find my comedy very easy to relate to. I also regularly get good feedback from women in the audience, which is lovely. I feel like I have a lot of jokes younger people will get too but I've also had countless older straight men tell me that they enjoyed my sets. So probably I'm universally loved by everyone. Not to brag.
..and who would you recommend maybe doesn't?
Anyone under the age of 18 because this stuff is graphic!!!
