Tell us a bit about A Joke.

It's a comedy. An Englishman, an Irishman and a Scotsman find themselves in a void with no idea who they are or why they're there...

And you've got quite the cast haven't you?

Yes! We have the lovely Robert Picardo coming over especially from the U.S., Sylvester McCoy is with us, and Richard Oliver making the epic journey from his little theatre in Cheshire! They are all superb actors and wonderful people to be with, we're so lucky to have them. The nice thing is that the audience will have the chance to meet them after the play.

How are you funding the play?

We're crowdfunding it - so anyone who wants to help us out can buy signed goodies from our website danfreeman.co.uk and all the proceeds will go towards the production. We have personalised voicemail messages, birthday cards and postcards from the cast on offer, and we're even auctioning their costumes! We'll also have an autograph-signing session after each performance, and again the money from the autographed photos etc goes into putting on the show. It's a great way to do it and means that Star Trek/Doctor Who/Hobbit fans can get involved.

Why bring it to Edinburgh?

We LOVE Edinburgh! Dan (writer/director) was born here, Richard Oliver has won several awards at The Fringe before, and it's been Bob Picardo's lifelong ambition to come here - we're all really excited. Sylvester visits the Fringe as a punter every year, so yes, let's just say we can't wait!

Who would you recommend comes to see A Joke?

Everybody! It's a particular pleasure to do something that's suitable for adults to enjoy with their children. We hope that the more sophisticated themes will appeal to adults and the more slapstick elements to kids - with enough verbal gags and story to please everyone. Come and see!

Timings and ticket information for A Joke are available on the edfringe website.
